Anyone got an old key?

Ive just bought an 03 986, the key is just the key, no internals for remote locking, has anyone got an old broken key or from an old car they could sell/give me so I can get it reprogrammed please?

Or has anyone any suggestions that doesn't involve me forking out £346 for a key...

TIA

Call an independent Auto Locksmith in your area. If you let me know which town you're in I'll give you some names of Lockies capable of making you a key.

Appreciated thanks! Belper Derbyshire.

3D auto keys quoted me £190 for a genuine key programmed.

I'm just wanting to get this one key up and running, as ive forked out for a full respray and the seats have been refurbished. I'm feeling a little broke at the minute lol

Is it possible to get an old key from a breaker and pull the electronics out and put it in my key?

Hi

If you want to program a second hand key you will need the original code that goes with the key (and your ipas codes) , and not many spares suppliers will have this.

It will probably be easier to get a new key fob form porsche for around 190-200 and then get this programmed.

There are a number of people with the necessary kit (including me) who can do this.

Thanks

An 'able' Auto Locksmith can read the necessary codes from the vehicle itself. You will NOT need the original code from the donor car of the key [;)]

OK, The replacement fobs are expensive but, save yourself a great deal of time and potential heartache with trying to source a replacement old unit on the cheap.
The fobs are a well publicised source of instant failure and just about all the stories you read about how to get them working again don't actually work.
I would say, Bite the bullet and just get a new one and enjoy the facilities of remote locking and unlocking without worrying about when the fob will die again, they average around 7 yrs of life before they die, so £350 over 7 yrs is 7p per day.
Trying the online repairers and paying for recoding to the car with an old fob - which will fail prematurely will end up costing you much more in the long term.
Are the fobs overpriced - yes, but that's what Porsche does very well - and lets face it, you don't have much choice
