Anyone had X73 suspension fitted to a 981 CS at OPC or specialist?

Hi all,

Having recently sold my Cayman GTS, I'm currently in the process of trying to find the perfect spec 981 Cayman S, but trying to the find one with al the spec I want is near impossible at the minute!

I've found a couple that are near but don't have either PASM or X73 fitted, I would be happy with either of these.

So my question is - has anyone had X73 suspension fitted to their Cayman CS?? And if so, how much did you pay?

Thanks in advance,

Chris

Thanks for the quick response Richard!

Can I just ask where that price is from? OPC?

The kit is £1,672.15 on Design911, but haven't tried getting a price from OPC just for parts yet.

Many thanks!

Chris

Chris,

I would imagine Richard has quoted the full retail price for the kit. If so you should be eligible for a 10% Club discount on that price.

Often you’ll find that Porsche approved parts are cheaper from a dealer than from Design911.

I’d check with a local Porsche Independent to get a price for fitment.

Jeff

Chris That should be the list price from an OPC. Why not give your local a call and check?

Part No 981 044 400 04 - Manual Part No 981 044 400 05 - PDK

Thanks Jeff/ Richard,

I'll give them a call and see if I can get the 10% PCGB discount off that :)

Have either of you experienced the X73 suspension? I've done a bit of searching on here and a 981 Boxster owner seems to be very happy - my Cayman GTS had PASM which was I felt was a good balance of handling/ body role and ride quality - just worried the X73 maybe a bit too harsh, I plan to use the car on weekends with occasional track days.

The Cayman S I am looking at buying has Sports Chrono/ PSE/ Bose/ Exenteded leather/ Sport Design wheel so it's close to my old GTS spec but just worried I'd be disappointed with the standard suspension coming from a PASM car.

Many thanks

Chris

Chris,

Sorry, I can’t help with your X73 question - I have a 987.2 CS with PASM and like you am happy with the ride/handling compromise, although I’m sure that your 981 GTS was an improvement owing to the additional development.

As you say the fitting of X73 has been a topic on the Boxster forum so maybe you should PM the OP and see where he’s located. If he’s reasonably local you could always ask if he could take you for a drive to give you a feel for the set-up.

Jeff

I have the x73 suspension on my C981 and don’t find it too harsh. We’ve done some continental road trips in it and the ride quality has been fine.

Good to know Bob, some say it's in between PASM off and on... I think I could deal with that for the handling benefits and less role!

Jeff - I'm not sure what Morgans ride like but I'm guessing quite harsh?! haha!

Earlier last year I reported in PP that Phil Anning wrote about his 981 GTS with PASM. He also wanted Sports Suspension, (aka X73) for track days, a combination unavailable on the 981, but possible with the 718. After extensive research Phil purchased Porsche X73 springs, anti roll bars and bushes and fitted these to his PASM shocks. Phil has created his 981 Sports / PASM setup and achieved his desired road and track balance. The result is a car 20mm lower than standard, with a stiffer setup. After a full wheel alignment, the car is ready for the track.

Basically Phil has done a lot of research into what parts fit, including larger brakes, and is happy to answer questions on this topic.

[/quote] Chris, to my mind the upside of the x73 option is improved handling and the improved appearance of the car as the stance is lower and meaner. Just my opinion for what it’s worth. You have to be careful of high kerbs when parking as the 20mm lower ride height makes the front bumper vulnerable.

Jeff, you could be right and maybe I’m not the best judge having owned Morgans for nearly 20 years.
