Anyone know this car?

T L Harvey dismantlers, based in the Midlands, currently have a 1991 black turbo on their books, unfortunately due to heavy front end impact - it has a bridge spoiler, D90s, and cream leather interior. Looks as though it was a nice, well maintained car. Does anybody know its background?? In particular, is the engine good?

Looking at the damage I'd be suspicious that the belts have gone and there will be minor valve damage, plus the bell housing may be broken off the torque tube. Its heavy front when you see the kink above the N/S "B" pillar. Make no mistake a 944 shell needs a proper whack on the end of the front leg to do that.
Looks a clean one otherwise, - but really whats left when you consider D90's are not especially valuable and the NSF one is likely damaged.
I suppose the Hatch/ Calipers/LSD&'box/couple of doors/sport interior/ECU/KLR units, one for Porsch-apart I'd say.

Porsche Cars GB will have a computerised record from 1987. If you buy a new book then the garages will re-stamp it for you. Unfortunately most of the garages will have disappeared by now.....
 
Thanks for that, I never knew that - would be interesting to see what they have on record for it.

I tried asking the Republic of Ireland OPC (Bellegarde Motors) but they're about
as much use as a crow looking into a bag of crisps.
If you're not buying a new machine off them they couldn't care less.
So much for friendly service!

Beat me to it in the time it took me to find the thread! When I saw it the car was running a bit rich and had a bit too much lag (perhaps a boost leak?). Generally would have benefitted from a little TLC but a good solid car and way better than many examples I've been to see over the years[:eek:]
 
Interesting drivers seat - looks like the rather rare Landrover option!

I noticed and laughed at that. Probably a nail but it's so close that it's worth a look just in case it is salvageable. Don't see many black turbos come up for sale. (wonder how many are left?!)

Mileage is low (if correct) check the ususal sills and front wing bottoms, if it's not rusty...........................buy it [&:]
 
I guess my recipe for the perfect car just falls too close to ignore. I wish they'd make a new one with a slightly fruitier sound track and some more power as standard but my thought process generally goes;

I need a proper drivers car again, manual, rwd and turbocharged for that 'on boost' feeling. I don't want to sit in a bin liner so that rules out Japanese cars and it has to be something I could potentially track from time to time. I'd ideally like a 'Nurburg' car the kind of car you can load up for a weeks camping, drive 1000miles and then blast round a track for a few days..

What other options are there?

Le Mans is a definite if I get it but I plan to make my first trip to Spa this year, regardless of car.

Cornwall? Where are you based? Don't forget to pop in on the Dyno day at Thruxton on your way down, or on your way back...

Or go early, buy it, and bring it back and get your baseline figures before you start on the inevitable slippery slope to making it more slippy!

Well went to see it.

Good solid car that and at a fair price from a dealer:
- Body was nice and solid in all the right places (sills been patched but looked solid),
- roof/seats/lights and other bits worked nicely.
- 4 fresh toyo's on the car
- driven regularly as far as I could tell.
- Visual inspection shows fresh belts/oil/coolent.

Unfortunately mechanical do to list was just a bit long for me:
- wouldn't get up to temperature
- wet carpets and smell of damp suggesting it's been there a while,
- exhaust leaking from somewhere around the manifold (I assume Y-piece)
- front disks (non m030) working but in need of replacement.
- gear linkage was true bowl of soup (but loose suggesting it's been driven fairly regularly)
- a little smoke on overrun but nothing unusual.
- central locking doesn't work and passenger door handle broken from outside
- few other niggles

Came v.close to taking it away (mostly for the solid body) but I'm not sure I have the motivation to get into a fixer upper, I just want to be able to drive/enjoy and replace bits as they come up for a while.

I guess I'll keep popping up on here from time to time, I do check the Members for sale section fairly regularly [;)]

Yes I foolishly bought a 40k mile old Cayman S thinking it would be more reliable to thrash and enjoy without the maintenance worries. MISTAKE! They don't build them like they used to.

Luckily nice dealer took the car back after I found a LONG/worrying list over my first 3 days of ownership.

It was a lot of fun though. The lack of mechanical grip and very confidence inspiring handling meant I could happily slide around and get all four wheels involved at 50mph on bends where a 944 would have just gripped and you wouldn't have wanted to provoke otherwise.

Surprisingly practical too. Loved the shape/size of the car but I don't think I'd have another, even in good condition. On these windy Cornish roads you spend most of the time in 2nd gear and all of the time with your foot against the bulkhead because the gears are so long and it just doesn't have the torque to get you out of bends on any kind of incline. By the time its wound itself up to the powerband in the last few rpm you have to get on the brakes for the next bend. A standard 944 t even with 100hp deficit would have easily kept with it on tight twisties.
