Anyone know this turbo s?

Fire damaged and written off, looked very clean and enthusiast owned. I've just bought the gearbox as I've never been overly happy with mine since my rebuild. AOR boxes very rarely come up so I couldn't help myself! Insurance paid out £24k on it. It had a few nice upgrades and I could see yellow shocks with coilovers in the gearbox pics I got sent.

Everything looks mint, nice straight oil cooler loop and box is dry. It had done 161k miles. It also has a mint rear exhaust heat shield that I got thrown in FOC! :cool:

Got any pics of the damage, guessing engine fuel lines? Where is it located, wouldn't mind the roof/headlining if it's sunroof delete.
 
No sorry, engine fire, yeah probably fuel lines. It's in Bellshill in Scotland, amazingly only 5 miles from my mates garage. I'll get a look for you when I'm out to collect the box. It's a MY88, registered Feb 89, so I'm assuming looking at the gearbox it has to be a turbo s, as you could still buy a 220 for MY88 that wouldn't have an AOR box.
 
Too far away for me, but thanks anyway. I think a genuine Turbo S should have the M758 option code, but I guess that could be fiddled. Without checking with Porsche GB to be sure. Plus I think PSH has fitted that gearbox in his 86 turbo.

Correct sir....I broke my original being a bit harsh with a gear change....could still drive it to my son's..a bit noisy though...🤣
 
Lol, turns out the car is an 89 250 turbo with a sunroof. The VIN number has a K which denotes 89. Oddly it was registered Feb 89 which I thought must have made it an 88 model, but no, it is not a turbo s. Still has the same gearbox though and that unicorn exhaust heat shield I needed!

Actually, edit to add, MY89 were available from 1st Aug 88 so nothing odd about the model year!

It's not the fastest gearchange in the world is it, especially when late braking and going for a quick change down from 4th into 2nd. Especially with a short shift linkage mounted on the gearbox..

My turbo was registered Aug 91, but I think the build date was late 90. So I expect the first owner knocked a fair chunk off the £45k+ list price.

I was thinking of you folks, this was originally for sale on the copart website and for very little money I'm guessing, can't see the final bid price unfortunately.

The fire must have been pretty hot as the inlet manifold looks like this :eek:

The engine is up for sale at £495 but looking at the state of the inlet manifold, I wouldn't think any of it is salvageable.

If you look through the rest of the pics on the ebay listing, the engine seems remarkably intact and not burnt. The belts are still intact, if a bit melted, and the engine turns over. Clearly a parts only engine though!

 
Well someone has snapped up the engine, sold in a day or so. I'll have a scavenge round about the car when I go down tomorrow to collect my box and heat shield.
 
I see a "strange" usual suspect breaker is selling an S2 box for £1,800. That would be 3 times what I paid for a significantly better and rarer AOR turbo s box, so yes, you would think so. Clean all the melted bits off, stick new belts and belt covers on, and someone will part with £2k for it.
 
I see someone going under the name of Mark Heron, advertising a turbo on Facebook. Company name Modern Classic Car Company....
