Anyone know what 996 Turbo's are going for now?

Boys & Girls, I'm looking at changing my 996 C2 for either a C4S or 996 Turbo later in the year, perhaps June time. Do you have any views on the cost of one of these fine vehicles. I have considered a GT3, but as I drive 20k+ a year I'm not sure if I could live with the beast.

Early turbo's (01 model year) can now be found in the £50k's, and there's a few LHD or high mileagers in the late forties.

Generally £55k+ gets you into sensible territory - reasonable mileage, extended warranty and decent provenance and service history.

Looking on Autotrader there's quite a few around at this price, but many of these are sold outside the dealer network. Some have obviously been modified - I'd steer clear unless you're sure of the modification and whoever carried out the work.

There's a few being sold by private individuals - find the right owner and you can may get a great deal. That's how I bought mine.

Also there are a few very good independents - Paragon and Camtune are often mentioned on this forum.

A quick check on Porsche UK website (car locator) shows 61 turbos for sale around the country. Lowest price £59,950 (2001 car). Highest £104,900 for a 2004 cabrio with 5k miles.

C4S - 59 for sale from £51k to £80k, but I don't know what they fetch privately.

Enjoy looking.

Thanks for the reply is there anything I should be looking for with the 996 turbo:

Eugene,

It depends on your budget - i.e. year of production you can afford.

Some of the options on early models (01-02) became standard on '03 cars, but the most sought after items seem to be Sat Nav, Cruise Control and Park Assist.

Beyond these, it tends to be the more personal items such as ruffled leather seats (as my wife said, made from cows with cellulite...) , Bose sound systems, Chrome pack and electric memory seats. The last item is good if you intend to regularly share the drivers seat with others - which is why I don't have it...

Known faults? Not many - the turbo, coming into production 2 years later than the normally aspirated 996, seems to have avoided the production problems that were found on some 98-2000 cars. It's also very different in many ways to the standard 996.

It costs a bit more to service, but it's generally acknowledged as a reliable car. Other contributors to this forum may have something to add here.

Otherwise look for one that has a tracker already fitted (will be almost essential for insurance and will save you £500+ to have fitted), and ideally the original or extended warranty still in force.

Seems to be a good time to buy - there'a lot for sale on Autotrader (96), through the OPCs and the independents.

Matthew
