Don't buy one from this dude then CLICK ME
£27.50 + £2.50 postage for a blank.

Was about to order one.......but had a rush of brains to the head and......

My OPC wants £14.99+VAT which includes cutting of the key! [:)]

Reassuringly they want to see proof of ID and ownership too.

I kinda guessed they were expensive!!

I don't suppose you know how much a new key head is (or even better the tiny spring inside the head!!)

Not sure Carl, but I'd guess the spring is £14.99+VAT and will come with a free Key, holder, battery, bulb, and key cutting service! [8|] [;)]

Nice one mik, thanks for the heads up.

Any idea on the best place for replacement leather gaitors for the gearstick thne - oh mighty parts guru [;)]

(be nice it's my forsy post on here)

Hi 944 S2, and welcome to the forum.

There are several parts suppliers that sell leather gaiters, Porscheshop and Design911 come to mind first off, Porscheapart also do new gaiter kits.

The kits look good when they are done, and get better with use, but are a bit of a sod to fit.

Many thanks for the quick reply, and kind welcome.

I have found a few links for them already, just wondering from peoples own experience if there are some better than others ?

I am up for the challenge of fitting it though, i suspect from what you say that it was much easier removing theold one (took me all of 2 minutes when i tried cleaning it, it just disintegrated because it was so worn at 160k miles use)

Sorry for the hyjacked thread mik [8|]

Okay i'm off to check out the aerial connection.

Thanks

Ahh, yet more of the ex-SEAT Scotland S2 squad!

I have had 2 gaiters from Prestige Parts. Top quality and Keith is a top bloke. He often has them up on eBay selling as kpporsche for less than ordering off his site. I have had both fitted to the knob by Keith but it doesn't look difficult.

Don't bet on it, it might be that £14.99 is for the blade only and the cap is extra - or at least that a cap with badge and light is anyway. I seem to remember paying £15 just for the cap 10 years ago.

but it doesn't look difficult.

Like most things, they don't look difficult when you know what you are doing. I've done two now (on different cars) and the second wasn't a lot easier than the first. Perhaps we should do an FAQ on "How to swap your gaiter".

One (of the many) snagget that you may now find 944 S2, if you have removed your original gaiter, is working out which way round the new one goes.

I got mine from e-bay for £22.50 inc postage. It's a nice perforated linen leather one.

There are always a choice of colours there - you just need to be patient and not pay too much (not everythings a rip off on e-bay - but some people get carried away!)

As John says, they're a pig to fit well, but a good hour will see it sorted.

Also, if you're going to fit a new shift pattern (the little button in the middle) you'll need to do it when you change the gator, as it's reaaally difficult to get it out without ruining the leather!

Just noticed new posts above - yes mine was from kporsche - top service and quality item!!

Well, if it's that difficult then use Keith's exchange service and you know you'll get a top quality one fitted properly.

If you do get an exchange remember to make sure you keep the rubber cap and diamond-shaped dampers - I've heard someone didn't do that first time and had to buy new... [:'(]

Well - job done. [:)]

New key from OPC for a grand total of £17.54. Cut. New lighty-uppy-bit and all. [:D]

Reassuringly they also wanted proof ID (photo), ownership and home address.

Replaced my gear stick last week.

I was going to fit it myself but the top was chewed up so I needed that as well.........and the wife said she would pay!!!!!

£48 + vat exchange from porschapart.

Nice soft leather, no perforations.....looks and feels great........just like the wife.........................after lots of beer.

Cheers, thanks for all that advise. I hadn't considered a replacement, as the removal of the gear stick looked far more difficult that just replacing the leather ? is it easy? i dont have a guide for it at present.

I remeber the way round it goes because i still have it, and remeber which side tore - so that's okay.

mik i'm going over to get my key tomorrow (about noon) if they have one left, can meet there if you want and get your torch back ?
