Anyone remember POR968?

Hi all,

A good friend of mine bought a 1994 Aventura green 968 Sport. We wrote to the DVLA and got the information of previous owners back.

The car has done 119000 miles (approximately) but was a Porsche Cars GB registered car (demonstrator?) and afterwards seems to be transferred to someone employed by Porsche GB.

What was unusual is the registration: POR 968.

Does anybody remember the vehicle in that guise? Perhaps from road tests?

Here is a picture as she is looking now, after a respray to get rid of some corrosion in the windscreen pillars, rear 3/4 wheel arches, front wings etc.

The car is currently running a set of boxster alloys, which will probably be used for a set of winter tyres: he is looking for a set of cup2's for summer.

Cheers,

Bert

Sorry can't help with the reg but what I can advise as an ex 944 S2 cab owner now with a 968 cab if these are 17" wheels & tyres which looking for cup 2's suggest I would advise getting 16" cup 1's & tyres!

My 968 came with 17" cup 1's and I couldn't believe how poor the handling was compared with my S2 decided it must be the 17" wheels & tyres (they are wider & lower profile) so put a spare set of 16" D90's on hey presto back to the delightful handling of my S2! 16" cup 1's were standard on early models (mines a late 92) with 17" being the option then becoming standard on Sport models?

For my money 17" low profiles ruin the handling, ok on smooth roads B roads etc they tramline & pull into the verge!

My advice try before you buy if you can drive another 968 with 16" wheels on?

Regards

Tony

Tony for what its worth my Sport handles great on 17s. Could be the difference is due to the Sport being an inch lower?

Thanks for the replies, chaps. I have send a registration and pounds over to the 968 forum, so fingers crossed.

Whilst the car is not bad on the boxster alloys, it is not original, hence my request for Cup2's. I received some pm's so I forwarded them over to Ray, and he can take a decision further.

So, no one recalls a magazine article or anything, with an aventura Green 968 sport, register POR 968?

Kind regards,

Bert

Nice looking car - 6 Aventura green 968 cars were UK registered.

I had an aventura sport (not yours) with MO30 that I sold four or five years ago now.

Enjoy!

Thannks for your response, Frazer. Interesting point you make re: the 6 aventura green cars registered: where did you get this info from?

Where you the chap who used their Aventura green sport on a daily basis and racking up 190 000 miles or so? I recall a car being sold on Ebay with huge miles, having a child seat in the back.

POR 968 was re-registered on an M a few years ago, but I just wondered if somebody recognised the initial registration....

Kind regards,

Bert

Hi Bert,

No, mine wasn't a daily driver - I had the aventura car at the same time as my 968 clubsport, and the sport did relatively very few miles. In the end I got rid of it for that very reason - I think when I sold it the mileage was approaching 100k.

I have a road test in CAR from June 1992 of the 968 v Mazda RX7, but the Porsche's reg was 968 POR. Looks like it's a silver car with tan interior....a different car then?

968 POR was the silver one featured in the 1992 Top Gear tested by Clarkson. POR 968 looks familiar too. Will check my stacks of literature [:D]

I never knew that, I own an Aventura Green (Pearl, which I guess is even rarer), Paint code is 39S rather than the usual 39R.

I nearly have that plate also, just has an M in front, M968 POR.

Im surprised at how nice the car look on 16" Boxster wheels. They arent suitable though, as theyre only 6" & 7" wide. Ideal for Winter wheels and tyres though.
