Anyone replaced their HiFi head unit???

Has anyone ever changed their hifi head unit? I have and it doesn't fit securely into the dash and the metal fixing plate supplied with the radio is too big to fit. The Becker head unit I removed used to fit securely directly into the apperture without any metal fixing plate.

Any ideas????

Ive replaced mine Phil.

As you say it doesnt quite fit as per the standard fit
I had to trim a little plastic (about 1mm) from the sides of the dash with a stanley blade to make the new Head Unit cage fit properly, i also couldnt get the cage securing bendover tabs to fit as securely as i would had wanted but its in, doesnt move around and it works [;)].
Its also a bit of a pig to get the HU in with the extra wiring (harness) unless you remove the climate box to allow your free hand to guide the extra wires in and under. there is also the 2? guides at the sides to allow the unit to sit squarely in the slot.
I also had to use an audioleads PC9-408 adapter to allow my upgrade sound pack 6speaker and amp sys. to work correctly, The 408 is the one advertised for porsche/audi bose systems, the PC9-410 didnt work correctly, sounded terrible and also didnt allow the unit to turn off with the ign. key.
Audio leads werent that much help as they said that the one that works eg. the 408 installed is only for the bose system and not 6 speaker.
WRONG

Don't forget you need to put a bit of tape over the point where the alarm contact is on the replacement radio - otherwise the alarm goes off as it is making contact.

ORIGINAL: Mark Bennett

then you have no alarm protection for the radio[;)]
But there isnt a connector to connect it to easily as the cage is a Sony not the Becker, i spoke to the OPC once and was told that some cars had the original wire disconnected as the alarm sounded erratically on some !
Mine wasnt connected when i swapped over

If my HU is stolen then thats the last of my worries as they have already cut my roof or smashed my door locks or windows

slightly OT but this guy is selling the adapters on ebay again here
PC9-408
this will cost you £40 in a well known highstreet car parts supplier
I bought mine from him too

this is for the 6 speaker upgrade system and bose, the other model pc9-410 didnt work on the 6 speaker sys
