Happy new 2010 all!

Has anyone with a Gen II 997 had their entire PCM shutdown and restart shortly after firing up the engine?? It's happened twice today (morning and evening) but has never occurred in the 1.25 years of owning it from new.

The car's not been driven in the last 10 days so needed the key to get in and whilst it was garaged, was extremely cold (-4c). I'm wondering if the cold weather could be doing it or indeed if suddenly I'm seeing a new problem emerging. One thought is both times the CD was inserted so started playing only for the system to then shutdown and start with the Porsche logo displayed (moisture perhaps?)

The one thing I did have recently was the daytime running light's sorted out (firmware upgrade) but it's been sometime since having the work done so I don't believe it is that.

Any ideas?

Cheers,
Simon

Voltage dip ?

Had a similar strange ocurrance in a Renault. Occasionally when starting, the dash would reset, needles would jump about & the clock go to 00:00.

Replaced the battery and it stopped happening.

I wonder if the cold weather coupled with a poor battery is dropping the voltage on startup making some systems reset ?

Yes, could well be something like that, thanks for the hints. The car hasn't done much mileage recently (and it's freezing) so would certainly back up your theory.

I'm planning on using it tomorrow morning so will see how it fairs. I'll check a few more things out.

Cheers,
Simon
