On the 996 certain "configuration options" had to be set-up at the dealership, e.g.
- Programming: Automatic door locking, e.g. when ignition is switched on; automatic relocking time (4s - 120s) if car not opened when opened with remote control
- 12V power socket live on ignition off (useful for battery maintenance) which involved re-wiring on some cars

On the 997 am I right in understanding that the programming aspect is completely available to the driver if you take the Sport option as well as there is a 12V socket live as standard?
What programming does Sport offer to the driver and in that respect is there any pre-configuration that one might need to request from the dealer in advance with the 997?

I just spent 30 minutes tracking down an article on the Sports Chrono option that I saw a link to back in November. I've copied the article from 911 here and in next message but feel I should give credit to "Coochas aka Dave" on rennlist who posted the images - see:

Yes, if you have the Sports Chrono plus option you can do this sort of thing yourself. Otherwise it is still something to get the dealer to do.

Thanks for responses - the links are the most written detail I have seen on options available.

I've requested configuration changes as such in the past (1 BMW, 1 Porsche) as per the manual and on both occasions what the manual said and what was actually available on the dealer interface was not the same, hence an interest in this aspect of the Chrono package, i.e. being able to configure things for yourself.

Re-reading the 911 article reminded me that I can configure the climate control setting and save to a key profile. I think I will do this and set the air flow to side and centre vents as I'm getting irritated by the speed at which the inside of the front wind shield films over to the extent that visibility is impaired.

Great option this, I have changed my preset temp and direction to suit the weather conditions of recent times.
I was told new cars tend to have the windscreens go 'dirty' on the inside form gases emitted from the new plastics and solvents involved with the manufacture of the vehicle.... mind you someone once told me Elvis was alive [:(]

I've experienced the "dirty window" on a BMW before - I suspect the interior windows can get overlooked on the PDI...
