Hi Guys

John

No idea on how rare or how valuable the AOR box is...I bought mine many years ago, perhaps 18 years....IIRC it cost me approx ÂŁ1100.. not sure if the Turbo S cars had them...I thought the AOR was 1989 only, so after the 88 Turbo S. I stand to be corrected if I have this wrong?

Pete

Hi Pete

I've had this a couple of years now expecting to replace my 944S box but for obvious reasons it doesn't due to final ratios being so different so at some stage its going to be sold now

, sorry your probably right its for a Turbo would that sound right.

Perhaps either ..I just took a look at Clarks...according to the info there the AOR box started in 88.5 .... I'm not sure when the S model began/ended .I'm sure someone here will know though.. not that it matters what car it came from. Being an AOR is what's of most importance to a possible buyer...if I had the funds I'd buy it myself as a spare...alas my days of throwing money at the car 'just in case' are long gone..

Regards

Pete

Haha Pete know the feeling this will be recycled into help fund a new gearbox on mine with a bit of luck here.

Its stamped markings are AOR 22010 the owner breaking the car said it was one of the last Turbo's built.

Car was registered 31 Dec 1991 and removed from the car with 130k miles on the clock, you may know him he lived near Maidenhead it was a Black Turbo and got T-boned and chassis twisted.

I think TurboS and all later cars had the same box, with hardened 1st and 2nd gears LSD and external cooler

Well at some stage its up for sale as its just stored in my garage as its not suitable to fit into a 944S I do have photo's, so if any one is interested pm me

TBH..... I know it sounds stupid I've seen a suggestion 1-2k for AOR's but possibly thats a bit rich so I really don't know the going rate that's why I posted.

TBH I don't need one, and it sounds like yours has done 30k more than the one I've got. It might be like new inside, or full of swarf, chance you take I suppose.

So, any tips on changing a gearbox and checks to carry out before installation? I don't have a transmission jack and I'm working on the floor with axle stands, so any tips or suggestions of how to get the box out safely appreciated!

looking good Phil, I'd take a close look at the gear linkage while you are there, I know mine is worn and needs replacing at some point, just one of those many 'to do' jobs on the list.

Pete

That's a 'only944' short shift kit fitted in the photo. I'll be swapping that to the replacement box. It was a great modification to the car a couple of years back. Made the gear change feel nice and tight and positive again...

The gearbox wasn't the pig of a job I was anticipating :)...so far....
