AOS and coolant tank replacement

I've read a few things online regarding the replacement of these 2 items, which basically go along the lines of dropping the engine and jacking the car up, taking wheels off etc etc. I can confirm that there is no need for any of the above on a 2002 manual 996 C2.

I replaced both items working through the boot lid, with the car on its wheels, on the floor. This took approx 10 hours (not 100% sure on time as did it in bits and bats) But as usual with these things, it could be done much quicker now.

Having worked on bikes and cars for years and this being my first porsche repair, things are quite tight in there! But just take ones time and go about it method like and its not that difficult.

Cheers!

I'm pleased you didn't drop the engine out because I have never heard of anyone doing that for either repair, Only people changing there AOS as the engine were out anyway for other repairs.
There are DIY articles for both over at Renntech and probably here too that may have helped you.

Anyhow well done.

Regards.

Yes - well done indeed! Easier on a manual than a Tiptronic, apparently.

You can drop the engine a couple of inches by partially undoing the engine mounts, which gives a bit more access.

I had my tank replaced when i had my clutch done. I'll admit i didnt do it myself but i wish i'd changed the rads at the same time then i wouldn't need to bleed the system again and also use more coolant.
