AOS....

I hate this term, reminds me of Axapta Object Server and therefore work. arrgh! I've already been called out once this week already because of a failure.....Anyway I digress!

Me being me, as you have probably gathered by now (I can't leave anything alone) I decided to check a few more bits while waiting for some parts from the OPC. I have been doing some reading on other common ailements, and decided to check out the air oil seperator. I've already noticed the bellow has collapsed slightly - another common fault as I understand it (and something the OPC didn't pick up!), so I am replacing that and the part is on order, but while I was on the subject I thought I would check out the rest of the system.

Now I want to point out that my car does not smoke at all, not even on startup, and has no idling issues or other running issues, so there is no reason for me to suspect an issue with this system, but I wanted to check all the same. I removed the TB, and the vent pipe into the intake for the seperator, I found a very light coating of oil inside the tube, not enough to drip or show, but if I stuck my finger in and wiped around the edges it was slightly wet. I also noticed a build up of gunk on the bottom of the y pipe going to the intake plenums. Now I have no idea when and if these have ever been cleaned, so this could well be over 100k of the AOS venting to this area, and I imagine only natural to have some build up. Inside the pipe and plenum opening it was in all honesty pretty much dry.

So, I believe from previous experience with taking intake plenums and TB's / intakes off of cars that this is normal, still all the same I wanted to check with you guys. Also the gunk on the Y pipe was mostly on the nearside, the side which the AOS primarily vents to. I suspect as I mentioned that this is a build up over a very long time, but I have cleaned it off so I can monitor it.

I'll post a couple of pictures up shortly.

Cheers,
