Appeal for help: 928 owners -- London area

Hi "" this is a renewed appeal to 928 owners who live in London area.

I have a garage which has an opening wide enough to take 968s, 944s and 924s (I currently have a 968 and a 944.) .For much of this year I've been idly looking at 928s too. This week I've seen a few I like and I have to get real and ask the question again on whether they would fit in the garage. It would be annoying to buy one and then find it's really tight or effectively impossible to get in. I could make adjustments to garage door but not that cheaply... So here I am wondering if to hire one for a few hours (any ideas?) to investigate or "" and this is the appeal -- see if anyone with a 928 can help by reversing it up to the door. If you've got one for sale I might even think about buying it: it's worth a few bottles of bubbly for sure for any assistance. [:)]

I live centrally, just outside the congestion charge area (although that will change soon thanks to Ken). [] - - - can send address direct to anyone genuine who can help.

Anyone able to help doesn't need to do any nasty manoevers "" I live on a wide, quiet street and it would be very obvious with the car outside the garage on whether it would be too tight or not.

Sorry, it's not possible to get a new garage without getting a new house. It's ironic because I have much more space at a place out of town but would like option of bringing a 928 down into the London garage too. I do apologise for multiple posts on (ahem) various Porsche sites but I want to get this sorted soon... can also send pictures to anyone mad/kind enough to offer assistance . Oh BTW both the cars I like most are GTS, though I'd be happy with other 928s if well maintained. thanks Mark

Hi Mark
Your best bet would be to sign up to the 928 UK email list on the 928 UK website & ask there http://www.928.org.uk/, no need to hire one !, I'm sure somebody would be willing to help there are many London 928 owners.
I would all so advise that you have a 928 knowledgeable person ( thats not the same as a Porsche knowledgeable person !) look at any intended purchase as the 928 has a few specific areas that should be carefully inspected , again ask on the email list.

Hiya - oh yep, I'd not thought of the 928 site and that's an obvious one. Will do- thanks much. Seems like the 928 can have so many things go wrong with it (and usually does) so expert help definitely useful!

Thanks to all especially 928S4racer: I tried the 928 site - and got a dozen helpful replies.

One 928 owner put his 87 S4 manual to my garage test tonight! Our conclusion: even with the mirrors pushed in it's really too tight to make it comfortable. There's only an inch or so to spare on both sides for sure. And I'm looking at GTS models, which are even wider.

I'm not giving up on this one though: I will make another attempt to have my garage widened (find a builder who isn't so pricey for a start hmmmmmmmmm) and in meantime would have to keep any 928 I buy somewhere else until I get this sorted out.

I friend tells me: "a third Porsche. And it won't even fit in the garage. GOOD idea." Yeah well, guess I've always loved the 928. Cheers to all
