Approved Body Repairer! Huh!

My 993 2S was damaged by some clown in a van on 1st May and the damage was to the O/S rear wing which I insisted i wanted replaced.
I recieved a phonecall yeterday from my Porsche body repairer to say it was ready for collection. On inspection I noticed that the rear side window rubber seal was not seated correctly, the rear wing where it is spot welded under the engine cover was covered with filler ( my 3 year old grandson could have done a better job) also the plastic wing protector was poorly fitted. I was disgusted. I have refused to take the car and left it with them. I got the impression from the approved repairer that (Its only an old car whats all the fuss about.?). I am to say the least p......d off. My pride and joy in my opinion now been repaired by a second rate tradesman. What action do I take now?
any suggestions?.

I had a similar experience.

Use a trusted local establishment.

If this is an approved repairer then they are approved by Porsche Cars at Reading. If you cannot get any satisfaction with the body shop then I suggest that you contact Reading and speak to the overall body shop manager. I have forgotten the guys name and actual title, but he is there to ensure that the work is to correct Porsche standards. He goes round all the bodyshops and QA's them etc. I had a similar problem with Jestys in the Bournemouth area some years ago and he was the guy who met with us both and mediated. In the end it was better - but not wholly satisfactory.
I wouldn't bother with your insurance companys assessor - unless he is a Porsche enthusiast he would have the same attitude as the body shop.
Personally I would leave the car there until it is sorted out.

Does anyone know legally where I stand if I do not get any satisfaction with the quality of repair?

Did other driver admit responsibility and/or are he insurers paying? If yes, they have to return car to value it was before accident (although this may take court action and a report from a sympathetic engineer).

hm...Think I'll take lots of pictures of key parts of my car...

I think I'd pay someone who is capable of doing a PPI to go along and take a look at the car now and write you a report that says what they think of it in terms of what they would say to a prospective purchaser....ie would they make comments like "accident repairs done but appear to be done properly" or "was in accident and appears to have been given a quick botch job".

Will cost you two or three hundred but sounds worth it to me (and you will get it back if they are arguing now but the report is in your favour)

But I think Reading will help you.

Thanks Mark
Yes the Driver has admitted liability and his insurance Company (Royal Sun Alliance) have given me a replacement carrera for the term.
The damage to the wing was minimal but I didnt want filler on the car hence I insisted a new wing.
But I want the car back to as it was they dont obviusly use spot welding equipment because if they did they woudnt have had to fill over the welds to the degree they have.
The Company I used are a Porsche / Ferrari Body repairer in Edinburgh and they were recommended by Porsche Centre Edinburgh.

As the OPC recommended the repairers to you I would certainly make my displeasure known to them - especially if you are a good customer.
Contact Reading as I said in my last post. They will lsiten to you.
Best of luck.

If the worst case is you get the car back & they insist the repair is fine, you could get your insurance company to put in a diminution claim against the loss of value to your vehicle because of the repair, not sure this is any help but an independent engineers report is about £150 (according to my insurance company) if you would like any further details just drop me an e-Mail

Good luck

Stewart,
Really sorry to hear of your bad experience. I guess because of the number of Porsche Centres and new cars now being sold the number of approved body shops is increasing. Some of these guys have been around for many years and still appreciate an older car - I have had nothing but good work over the years from my local shop at Rushock (west mids), even for a car over thirty years old where they have identified small detail parts that have been missing, and corrected this for me.

As Peter B suggested, Porsche Cars at Reading take this sort of thing seriously and should help you in your quest for an excellent repair - after all it comes with a 'lifetime' warrantee.
