Now 6 months into ownership of a mid 2005 Carrera 2 bought from OPC and still under warranty I am looking at maintenance options going forward. I live in Edinburgh and am looking for recommendations as a recent visit to OPC did not fully fill me with confidence as to quality/value of service. I want to maintain provenance of the car but with a good technical knowledge dont want to waste my time and money.

Hmm, difficult. Despite the easing of restrictions under the block exemption rules, I'd guess Porsche would insist on the car being serviced by them during the warranty period. As far as I know (and I'm open to correction here) there are no officially approved independent Porsche service places in Scotland. There are only a few indie's anyway; one in Edinburgh, one in Shotts and a few in Glasgow. I'm assuming you only have 6 months to run on your warranty anyway, so my advice would be to bite the bullet and have it serviced by the OPC for now, and you can always use one of the indies once the warranty is up.
In my experience, service quality from the Edinburgh OPC is excellent, even if ridiculously over priced, but that has more to do with Porsche UK insisting on a standard UK pricing schedule unfortunately. Scottish hourly rates used to be much more reasonable before this was imposed.
I will be facing a similar dilema myself shortly, as my car will be out of warranty, and I have yet to decide where I will have it serviced in the long term.

Two independents in your area get a good reputation ,if your car still has Porsche warranty do you not need to continue to use the OPC to validate it ? or is this after the warranty expires you are thinking about it ,and do you plan to buy another years warranty which I believe is going up and you also need to get a 111point check carried out prior to taking it out .

Thanks for your comments. Yes the query was re post warranty period servicing as the renewal fee, I am led to believe, will be c£1500. At that level it is difficult to see value as an annual cost especially if you have a good un. Clearly a catastrophic failure could hurt big but forum chat aside and obvious, possibly historic, issues such as rear main seals I think all owners coming to the end of warranty cover will have to do some hard thinking.

Agreed, I certainly won't be extending my warranty. Once the warranty is out I shall pick and choose who I use to suit the occasion. Peter McAnna at Motortune would be my choice, my only slight reservation being whether or not he has the most up to date diagnostics for recent cars.

Can i be really rude and ask how much the replacement engine will be for the boxter? is there no way of repairing the old one??? i have my warranty expiring next year and the whole warranty thing is great cause for debate.
Saw your posting on this on boxa.net - are you certain its not worth just asking Porsche UK? They have certainly helped out with engine replacements for out-of-warranty cars before. After all, a new engine is going to cost around £9k is it not?ORIGINAL: tonymccandless
No warranty = choice of fighting Porsche or just getting hold of replacement engine.
