2010 Calendar of Events
The R5 2010 Calendar of Events is attached to this Newsletter. It can also be viewed on the Club Forum, and, I hope, be downloaded.

Classic Servicing & Repairs
With nearly 80% of all the Porsche cars ever manufactured still in use today, there are many owners throughout the UK of older or "Classic" Porsches. With those owners - and their cars - in mind, PC Wilmslow has recently introduced a new "Classic Servicing & Repair" service.

The objective of this new service is to help "Classic" owners keep them on the road in full working order, by maintaining (or restoring) them to the enviably high standards to which they were originally engineered and built. Naturally, all said work is undertaken using genuine (OEM) Porsche parts installed strictly in accordance with Porsche's prescribed procedures and settings. With its experienced, Porsche-trained technicians, all its original tooling preserved in "as new" condition and the all-important workshop manuals archived in the most accessible fashion, PC Wilmslow believes it is particularly well equipped to provide the new service. It also encourages a regular dialogue between each owner and the Centre's Service Adviser, plus the Technician(s) working on their car, through which the work they require is planned.

One of the first users of the new service - a Carrera 3.2 owner - who apparently started out with a quite modest plan of work, was so pleased with its execution that he duly commissioned in excess of £10,000 of work. Seemingly in cases like that, where the owner is content to have the work done over a period of a month or two, the labour rate can be surprisingly competitive.

Forthcoming Events
April 14 Club Night
Open Evening at Hartech Ltd, Firwood Industrial Estate, off Thicketford Road, Bolton (postcode BL2 2NA for satnav users), starting at 1900; but please do not arrive before 1830. The visit will commence with an introduction to the firm by principal Barry Hart, followed by light refreshments (courtesy of Hartech), after which participants will split into groups for separate, more detailed presentations on the services offered by the firm, including steering geometry, engine building, specialist machining, its Lifetime Maintenance Plan service, and what might be termed "re-engineering for reliability" for water-cooled "boxer" engined cars.

NB For practical reasons attendance has to be limited to 50, so would members who attend Club Nights infrequently but wish to come along on this occasion please let me know, preferably by e-mail.

April 18 "Summer Sunday" Outing

Rendezvous at 1000 for bacon butties at the home of newish members Mary & Norman Stansfield, at "Stanswood House" Station Road, Furness Vale (on the A6 between Whaley Bridge and New Mills). In addition there will be a small display of interesting cars brought together by Norman and his friends. Depart at 1100 for Jodrell Bank (entry fee £2.00 pp), either on a route of your own choice or on one of those set by Norman. Participants wishing to have lunch will leave Jodrell Bank at about 1400 and proceed to the nearby Red Lion pub in Lower Withington.

April 25 PC Chester Open Day

PC Chester Dealer Principal Adrian Kermode has invited members of the North Wales Region (R6) and neighbouring Regions to an Open Day, commencing at 1100 am. The main purpose of the event is to try to resurrect R6 as an active Region, but in addition there will be a display of Porsche race and rally cars, a race-car simulator and free prize draw, plus a buffet.

NB Members who plan to attend are asked to inform Karen at PC Chester, either by "˜phone, on 0845 845 4911, or e-mail to karen.sealeaf@porschechester.co.uk.

May 3 Gawsworth Hall Classic Car Show
R5 will again be kicking-off the "˜northern' Porsche display season with its stand at this popular event run by the Richards family at their historic home. The event starts at 1030 and tickets (£4.00 per head for exhibitors) are available in advance via www.gawsworthhall.com or on the day. The R5 stand will be in its customary location (on the top field), together with TIPEC members and the trade stalls, and, following the positive response to last year's new layout, we will be using it again with just a few minor modifications. Complimentary tea and coffee will be available in the marquee, which will also serve as a refuge for members should the weather be at all inclement.

NB Would members who can help set up our stand on the day prior to the event and/or man it on the day please contact me, preferably by e-mail.

May 12 Club Night

At The Deanwater Hotel; featuring a presentation by R5 member and former RO Graham Marginson on his unique "˜new' Porsche. It seems that, contrary to popular belief, official Porsche AG records show that there was a very small number - probably five - of factory-built 993 Speedsters. Graham will both tell us and show us how he now owns another built to the same specification.
