Anyone want to drive in convoy from London?

meeting point Heston Services perhaps

Hi
Could meet at the next services out past the M25 as I am coming round the M25 from the A41 and Heston is a bit out of the way.
Will watch the thread for a time and add on a bit for the next stop .

Grant

I'll be coming up the A34 from Winchester and joining the M4 near Chieveley Services(Junct 13). The next services is between junct 14-15 The Membury services.
Would be good to go up in convoy.

Dan

Heston Services sounds good to me. Any thoughts on what time?

For those coming round the M25 like me (I remember there are a few) Heston is less than 10 mins on the M4 towards London on a sat morning. Unfortunately drive it most days.....

Cheers

My start point is pretty much next to your house Nic, so Heston is fine with me...

For those joining from M25, the next one would be Maidenhead (after Junction 8-9).

Here is a useful site to find out the service stations:

What about those who are coming from North London i.e. the South Mymms service area?

Any volunteers? According to AA route finder it will take about 2 1/2 hours and I think that I will have to be there for about 09.00 a.m. and would have to be on my way by about 6.15 in the morning [].

Just recieved more info about the trackday from and it states that only six cars are allowed on track at any one time.
Understand they want to keep traffic down on the track but the circuit is 2 miles long, could easilly stand twice this amount.
If it is to be only six cars at a time how long are they allowing you out at any one time and also this is seriously
going to impact on you total track time.
Not best pleased with this.

What Kevin said. This is the norm for quite a few circuits.

However, it has been known that in the afternoon at Combe, up to 8 cars are let out on track. Not sure of the logic behind this. Perhaps the local council boys all knock off at lunch time?

Anyway - don't get stressed. As long as people keep it on the black stuff you should get plenty of time on track.

I can understand from the point of view of noise but you would have thought that most cars running standard exhausts should not amount to too much.( I got black flagged at Bedford a few years ago with a highly modified Scooby and told to go home)If it was a bunch of Scoobies I would understand.
Have never been to Castle before but done Goodwood several times with Goldtrack and have normally run around eight cars at a time.

I sure it will good fun.

Sorry if my tone was off just a knee jerk reaction.

Still up for it but seems everyone is joining the M4 at different stages! Could always start at Heston services and do a second meet at Reading services J11-12 or Membury services J14-15 which would catch everyone who has posted so far.

Would be nice to see a line of Porsches travelling down the M4 on a sat morning!

[&o] Has any final plan been formulated for this meet up? Is there a meet up?? If so time please [:D]

Dan,

I am coming up the A34 from winchester as well and could meet you at a convenient point(if you know of a good place -I do not know the immediate area that well) at say 7.00-7.15am-with a view to get to circuit for 9.00am-again I have never been to the circuit so timings may be a bit out.

Everyone else,

How about meeting at the Membury Services -as suggested-at say 8.00am with a view to being at track for 9.00am-again please say if my timings are totally out as not certain of time taken to drive the route-we could try to meet at 8.00(or whatever time is right)and leave 10.00 minutes later.

If everyone who wanted to be in the convoy posts then we could try and not leave anyone behind.

I am happy to do two stops one at Heston services and then further one down M4. Nic, lets set a time for the Heston meet.

Fuel:
This is the nearest pumps I found to Castle Combe for Tesco 99 and Shell Optimax. From http://www.petrolprices.com/

Tesco Chippenham Express (it is the orange symbol above Sainsbury and Total on the map below)
Price for RON99 on 25th Apr: 98.9p
Distance from track: 5.99 miles

Shell Chippenham Motors Ltd
Price for Optimax on 22nd Apr: 102.9p
Distance from track: 4.26 miles

You go straight past the Shell garage on the way from the M4 to Castle Combe. It's quite handy - fill up just before you go in, use it all up on track, fill up again to get home.

They seem well used to seeing a flurry of nice cars first thing in the morning and last thing in the afternoon!
