18th APRIL, TRIP TO THE FORBIDDEN CORNER
The first real event of the year for our region and I have to say that Alan did the club proud with what turned out to be an excellent day out despite the weather.
We all met at the southbound services at scotch corner at 10.15am with a turnout of some 13 Porsches, a Morgan and my neighbour and his family in his golf R32, well, the more the merrier. I've already mentioned the weather, which was damp to say the least, which is always a pain when most of the previous day was spent washing and polishing our lovely machines but spirits were high none the less. Several members suggested that there were a few car clubs in this area of the country over this weekend for different events, this became evident on the journey down to Richmond when we were passed by a red 944 and a 968 in tandem, who acknowledged us all with a flash of their headlights, thank you who ever you were. These were followed shortly afterwards by a convoy of twenty or more new style minis flashing their lights and blipping their horns and we all acknowledged likewise, a fine display from one club to another.
We arrived at the Forbidden Corner at 11.15am following a short detour by Alan who some suggested had gone the wrong way, however I believe Alan was merely exploring a route for a future trip!
Once at the Forbidden Corner the weather broke and the sun shone, with plenty to amuse adults and children alike we all had a couple of hours enjoying the mazes, puzzles and follies, not to mention the views across the Yorkshire dales and then returned to the car park for the obligatory group photograph. Lunch followed at the Foresters Arms in the nearby Carlton village and then a drive through the dales, which were as picturesque as always with some excellent driving roads to match although the rain had arrived again and many of us aired on the side of caution especially when faced with dry stone walls on either side of the road and new born lambs abound. A break in the village of Grassington was the final stop of the day before heading towards Ripon and back onto the A1 and home by which time the weather resembled that of a monsoon.
On behalf of everybody that attended the first trip of the year I would like to thank Alan for a very enjoyable day out, thanks again Alan.
