Aqua Blue Cayman

I've just ordered an aqua blue Cayman but i've just noticed sapphire blue is now an option. I have to admit i'm not totally convinced on the colour but i wanted a change from silvers and greys etc. Can anyone point me to a picture of the sapphire blue as i'm struggling to find anything on the net. My order for the car is still open and like many i read here i am struggling to get the right options.
Thanks in advance

Ian, You're probably best looking in the flesh for cars in these colours as pictures rarely give the correct impression. Try calling around your "local" PCs to see if they've got any cars (not necessarily 981s) so that you can have a look. Aqua and Dark blue are standard colours. Is Sapphire blue a special colour? Check out this link but it doesn't include Sapphire: http://teamspeed.com/forums/porsches-past-general-porsche-news/873-all-shades-blue-offered-porsche.html Jeff

http://www.planet-9.com/981-chat/80141-boxster-price-hike.html If you check out this thread on Planet 9 it is seems that Sapphire blue replaces Aqua blue and Rhodium replaces Platinum silver. Best to ask your OPC is this is the case for your order. I don't think the price rise they refer to in the US for Boxsters will apply to Cayman as its only just being launched in the UK this month. As UK pound is so weak it wouldn't surprise me if Boxster prices go up here shortly.

The configurator currently shows both Aqua and Sapphire blue at the same price - but going by how Aqua appears, I certainly wouldn't rely on it giving you a decent idea of what they actually look like on the car!

Jeff & Chris thank you. Now looking at all the different options it's just dawned on me that no matter what colour it is, it's a Porsche, I would be happy with any colour ! The last one was meteor grey, 2.9 2012, which was a demo so i didn't get to choose. I wasn't sure with that at first but once it was home i loved it. The options list is hard work also but it's just the PASM i'm not convinced about. The last one didn't have it and i put 19" rims on. It was a touch harder on the poor surfaces but not enough to worry about. This one will have the 20' wheels but i need convincing PASM would help enough to justify the extra cost - I tried to stick to a budget but that went out of the window quite quickly.

I borrowed a 981 Boxster S with PDK and PASM on 20" wheels and was stunned by how good the ride was. Even Sport mode was useable on the road! Personally I'd wait for the Sports Suspension - which I note isn't listed as an option yet.

Spyderman I agree with you on that. The colour image on the website is nothing like reality. I have seen an aqua blue boxster local to me which is nice but as you say nothing like the images portrayed.

Ian, I would definitely go for PASM, along with 20 inch wheels its seems to be the perfect look and set-up and it's an improved system on the 981 with 4 more sensors. I thought the ride compared with my Cayman Gen II on 19ins was so much more comfortable, if you're coming from a GenI then even more so. Plus PASM rideheight is 10 mm lower and makes those 20inch wheels sit just right. Yes. sticking to a budget is a problem, why not go for white like the rest of us and save on the metallic[;)]

Chris, I love the look of them in white but i have neighbours either side who have white cars and a sister who has white car (none Porsches i hasten to say) who says I should go white. I always like to disagree with her. . . even when she's right !

White is definitely the "in" colour at the moment Ian and appears to have taken over from silver. There was a time not long ago when dealers had to discount white cars to shift them..! Generally, I'm not a great fan of the darker colours but I do make an exception for certain blues - and I've had more blue cars than any other. I think that the Cayman looks really good in the lighter colours (white, silver and yellow) but I'd be tempted to spec Aqua blue (or similar according to Chris' post) with the Agate grey/Pebble grey leather interior to lighten lighten the cabin. As others have said, and from my experience too, PASM is a worthwhile extra especially if you're having the 20" wheels. Because it's adaptive, in the normal setting the ride is slightly softer than the standard set-up when you're just cruising but adjusts rapidly if you start driving more aggressively. Apparently, now it's even usable in Sport mode for everday use rather than on ultra-smooth track surfaces. Jeff

I saw an Aqua Blue 911 in OPC last week when in for a test drive and it is a lovely colour, quite a bright blue. If you have not made final decision on colour and spec then ask to look at cars outside so you can decide as I find the colours changes from showroom to on the road.

It will be interesting to see what colours they present at the launch, my bet is they will all be metallic with a yellow car just or impact. Good chance to see all the options too as they will be fully loaded, that's for sure.

Yes Chris, yellow and/or white for effect always goes down well with the punters. But then most colours look good under artificial light; it's only in daylight that the colour has it's true impact. Am I right in saying that Monday is Cayman launch night everywhere in the UK? Only another 48 hours to wait.! Jeff

Jeff, Mine is in Wednesday, they rotate the cars so expect you will see the same cars I will, probable Reading is in Tuesday. Your feedback and photos awaited, will you place your deposit then or face an end of summer delivery?[;)] Chris

Yes Chris, I suppose that each group (Porsche Reading, Sytner, Lancaster, etc) is allocated a few cars for the launch. When I attended the 991 launch at Hatfield there were so many people there that we had to park over the road in another company's car park. It was packed out and it'll be interesting to see how many people turn out for the "poor man's 911" tomorrow..! Maybe I'll have a rethink once I've seen the new car, but currently I'm sticking with my plan to keep my 987.2 for another year or two. Mind you, with the Pound falling against the Euro, I suspect that it won't be long before Porsche introduce a cross-range price hike, as in the US, but that'll make second hand 987s even better value for money and stabilise prices. Jeff

The Boxster launch was packed out too, I wonder how many of those customers will come along this week out of curiousity. With the pound falling so much I wouldn t be surprsied to see a price increase for 2014 model year cars across the range although less likely for the 981 Cayman as its so new, probably add TPMS in the basic and bump the price by the cost. It would be interesting to hear what the delivery position is; the next few months will soon get sold out with demand following the 5* press reviews. Chris

I wonder how many people just turn out for the free wine, beer and canapes? I suppose that we Porsche owners are paying indirectly, so may as well tuck in..! At Hatfield we're told that "throughout the evening we will have a number of historic cars on display and an interview with a famous Porsche race driver" - odds-on its Dickie Attwood again. If I can grab a salesman I'll check the order situation. Jeff

and whats wrong with a le mans winner "again"[:D] personally i could listen to dickie all evening-found him great fun on the previous launch at hatfield(my opc too) also had the good fortune to have him for a silverstone private session-made me feel far better driver than I am -proper gent!! linda`s favourite of all our porsches was the cayman s we had from new in 2006 so she may make a bid for another !!but with 997 TT pdk`s looking good value .........

Just a comment Dylan, not a criticism. I too had an interesting chat with him at the Silverstone Centre after my half-day Cayman intro session some years ago but unfortunately, unlike yourself, I didn't have him as my instructor. See you at the Hatfield bun fight tomorrow.! Jeff PS: Linda has excellent taste..!
