ARB upgrade

Opinions sought (and there aren't many of those around here.... [:D] ) on ARB upgrades ('88 924S) for sprint/track/road use (predominantly road). Nothing too radical but a sharpening up looked for - are finding some Turbo ARB's the easiest way to go? and what about bushes, are standard ones OK or should I go for 'solid' poly bushes whilst I'm at it.

I'm lowering it soon, should I fit the bars before I get all that done (hang on a minute, I suppose I should do it whilst I'm lowering it because they'll presumably need to come off anyway at that point? )

Hi Phil,

I think I still have my 220 Turbo ARB's sitting in my shed some where, which could be yours for a small consideration [;)] These are, without doubt, the very best upgrade you could make - but then I would say that.

All 944 968 ARBS are interchangeable, as far as I am aware, and only require the correct diameter bushes which are readily available from your OPC.

Personally I would do what ever other suspension mods you are anticipating before changing the ARBs as the thickness and relationship front to back will impact on the handling and could effect your choice of going thicker or thinner at one end or the other. I went for the 968 M030 bars front and back as these were, in effect, a matched set developed by Porsche. As the last derivative, one assumes they might have got it just right by then.

Hi John, I was talking to Andrew Sweetenham earlier today on the subject and he siad pretty much the same - get the ride height sorted first as that may well change the thoughts about what is required. But keep those 220ARB's hidden in the shed a while longer as I may be coming back to you once I'm sorted.

What sort of consideration do you have in mind? They do sound very old and not worth much [;)] if they're just dumped in your shed [;)][:D]

Don't forget that John is a professional Joinery and Project Management Aficcianado Extraordinaire and that shed you so callously dismissed is quite capable of handling a full NASA moonshot expedition if required
 
I've no doubt the shed is beautiful, it's the ARB's that I'm trying to talk down....[;)]

Anyway, I'm suitably humbled and apologise most profusely. I will no longer expect every other shed to match the state of dilapidation that mine has (I like to think of it as 'cottage garden' style with a swathe of wild flowers growing around it). No, it's not working is it, I can see you're not convinced, OK - it's a mess. [:D] [:D]

You make that shed sound nicer than my house!!

Just a quick query - is it black paint on ARB's? Is it paint or powder coat. I've got hold of a pair of 2nd hand M030 ARB's and wouldnt mind giving them a bit of a spruce up before fitting to get them looking as good as new - sand blast and paint or powder coat.

Damn, my secret is out. It looks like, for security reasons, I may now have to relocate Mission Control. [;)]

I was going to make a comment about my less than bijou "shed" noting that as the roll bars were actually taking up commercial space their value increases as time goes by.

Mine is 27mm in the middle......Any ideas whats it off?

Somewhere in the bowels of this forum is a previous thread where I listed all the roll bar thicknesses and what they came off. I can't remember how far back it was but a search may drag it up.

Seems like I have 968 ARB's (27,16)

My brakes are the same as a late turbo M030, anybody know if these are the same as 968

IIRC they are the same as a 968 that has M030, but a standard 968 has the smaller brakes from the S2 and 220bhp Turbo
