Arbs and clunking noises

Ok. My suspension saga continues. I removed the front arb ( 968 cs ) and the clunking noise disappeared. Ok so know I think its the arb . So I change all the bushes on the arb and on the drop links for new poly ones. Put the bar back on and its clunking again. So my question now is does the 968cs have different drop links to a 944 s2 or has the arb put strain on the arms or something else. All the bushes and struts top mounts etc are new. I just can't figure out what the heck is going on with it. I'm going to le-mans in a few weeks and want it sorted before I go.

Any ideas ?

With the car on the floor do you have a shot of how the ARB drop links are on the drop links themselves? I reckon Simon may have had a point with the lowering.

It is a long shot, but considering that the ARB resists the movement of rolling the car is it worth checking your balljoints again with a crow bar? I know you said that they were replaced, but you never know ;).

I don't think it's the ball joints as removing the arb places no more or less stress on them. The car is sitting at standard height o nn standard new struts and top mounts. I have 968 castor mounts ( new from OPC ) arb poly bushes and new arb drop link bushes ( the ones on the arm ). Take the arb off and no noise put it back and I get a noise. I'm wondering if I've put it on upside down or if the 968 drop links are different. I really don't know and I'm starting to grasp at straws now.

I had this on my last car and it was the doughnut type bushes either side of the arm. They were knackered and the assembly was a bit loose so if I went over a bump they clonked. In the interim I just tightened the nut up but I replaced them with poly bushes in the end too.

I try an get the car on a ramp to get underneath and have a good look - local garage or MOT centre should help. Stating the obvious, but have you ensured all bolts are torqued on suspension?

Do you have air con? Not sure if it was turbo/engine mount or was always like this but I found my 30mm front bar was pinched against the air con compressor so I cut a bit off the unused lug that was causing the issue. Car been on a few lifts and no one noticed. I did when it was on a level lift where it lift from the wheels.

So latest news . Today I removed the ARB again but this time I also removed the saddle clamps and the upright mounts. I tried to see if I had installed the arb upside down by accident but it quickly became apparent that it wouldn't fit that way up. So I refitted it with weight on the wheels in an effort to get it on properly and stop the twang noise. While I was doing this I discovered that one of the saddle clamps was on back to front as it wouldn't go back together as easily as the other side. So I pulled it off and turned it round and refitted the arb. Not tested it yet but I hope that I've cured it now. It really would be annoying if it turned out to be something as simple as this but at the same time it would also be a relief as the car is going to Le-mans in two and a bit weeks and I don't want to listen to it clunking all the way there and back.

Fingers Crossed..[:D][:D][:D][:D]

Well it did turn out to be as simple as a reversed clamp. Drove it today and no clunks or thunks. [:D][:D][:D][:D]
