Arch liners

I just took the wheels off and re-cleaned the arch liners. They look pretty faded after being scrubbed, more of a grey than black.

Anyway, I had two options I think, well actually three, buy new ones (there really is no point just because they are in perfect condition), silicone them or spray them. I decided to go with the latter, £4.99 can of halfords bumper trim plastic black spray paint. After I cleaned the arches of grime, I just blew over a thin coat of this on the arch liners and popped the wheels back on, result is that in the sun and with the wheels turned - no more nasty grey arch liners.

Ok so I know this is probably a bit anal going on about arch liners lol, but seriously, it made me a lot happier, perhaps you guys should give it a go if you can be bothered lol.

Oh and something else I found out; don't use spray on tyre dressing - it's shite, I tried some for the first time and had to use half of a can on four tyre walls, best to stick to the squirty stuff.

A friend of mine used the Halfords bumper trim black spray on his rear bumper. It was a great match and looked fantastic. Until it started peeling after a month.
I suspect with the amount of debris shot into your arch liners, they will also begin to peel away and end up being patchy. You'll have to remove it all and spray it again.

Hi Rodney, I didn't actually put a thick coat of paint on it, just a thin layer as mentioned - more of a dusting similar to overspray on paint work as it was just a way to give an effect and darken it down.

Having done a bit of paintwork in the past I was mindful of the fact that without priming and sealing the paint it would build up a thick unprotected skin if I loaded it on that would not adhere properly and get destroyed or just come off.

I'd hope it shouldn't peel as a result, but yes it certainly will wear over time and need to be redone but I am hopping it will last the summer.

Cheers,

The other thing to do is also take the sump off and get it chromed, these important publicly viewable parts of the car need to be kept in tip top condition :)
