Are early cars starting to become appreciated?

For those who like to surf through the wonderful selection of cars on classicdriver.com, DLS Automobile in Germany have a couple of very nice early cars at very interesting prices.

I think early swb cars have always been appreciated. I sold my '67 SWB last year to a dealer in Germany who sold it on for similar money to those above.

If you actually look around, there are not many original SWB cars about. Too many seem to have been converted for historic rallying
 
They are indeed appreciated, but not only the early cars but also the "mid year" cars. Partly this is due because the people who are buying now are the former boys who "pwoar"-ed their noses against the windows of the then- new porsches and are now in a position to have some disposable income, kids off to uni and the house largely paid off. Secondly, the appreciation happens because those people who are petrol heads often choose to have lease cars/company cars/boring daily drivers and leave a "real drivers car" for those early morning 3 hours trips to pick up the sunday papers in order to come back with a big grin.

Arguably, a porsche 911 devoid of drivers aids, light, raw and loud can provide that real drivers pleasure.

I prefer to drive my 911 -when it comes out of the bodyshop- as much as I can. That means at least 5 days a week and definetly on long distance journeys- the car and you become "one". The fact that your feet are fried but you also end up with a running nose, combined with 3 days ringing in your ears is a mere inconvenience in the bigger scheme of things [:D].

no to be fair I used to draw the 911 shape alot and also cut out the sunday mag adverts of 944's and 911's they where great adds shame I don't have them still..

Also the early cars have had a real turn around.. I mean my 54 Pre A I couldn't afford to buy one now.. £4400 and I thought was mad buying a resto project and now look at the value I havn't done anything to it yet!!

912's have risen to high prices I think to be fair alot of this has been the dealers.. once one dealer puts a car up for high money 3-4 will follow and then suddenly the market changes.. not all cars are going to sell make no doubt of that.. it's only going to be the best of the best that sell for good money..

I personaly don't like it to be too much of a rise.. I think clubs like here and DDK with the early cars have the right balance of people too heavy a price of car and it;s the investor and the garage queen. So the people change..

Cars can still be found... I have been involved with a few of late still thinking..

Low light Karmann ghia $5500 tidy in LA

so they are out there..
