are some people just too incompetent?

On Tuesday I found out that I have a slight dent in the passenger door of my car and my suspisions are either my neighbour dented it trying to get some more junk (which they got from a skip apparently) out of their old Volvo heap or it was done when I parked it in the car park not far from work. My suspicions are it was my neighbour and I am even more sure it was them as when I showed it to them not even implying it was them they were just too quick to deny it but I haven't got enough proof that it was them.

I will post some pics probably tomorrow.

bluddy ell thats the worse kind of damage because you are convinced its them but have no proof. If you accuse them you risk being wrong and looking bad and souring relations with your neighbours.
I'm convinced my neighbour scratched my S2, she is so careless opening her car door. I keep parking further away from her but she just moves up a bit and parks nearer Grrrr.

Its such a shame. I dread parking anywhere because no one gives a rat's anymore

Our relations with our neighbours is zero after numerous little things, that and finding them looking through the bins where we live. So I couldn't care less what they think of us any more as I don't think they like us anyway.

Just go for it and fall out big time...then they might leave your bins alone[;)]
Seriously though I have the same problem at work where everyone knows my 944 is my pride and joy, however I still get one of the guys in an old shed of a mondeo parking close up to me (always inspect car when I come out)

I completely sympathise, Whilst I was mowing my lawn in the summer I watch my neighbour park their car virtually in my boot, a couple of minutes later I saw my car jolt forward with a loud thump, the fool had got in and started it in gear, he denied it also, my advise to you is to make him believe that you are genuinely going to make him eat dog do and he'll be more forthcoming, his house is now currently for sale, which is nice.

It is very upsetting to have one's car damaged and even more so when the perpetrator does not own up!!! I had a similar incident at a PCGB event in the IOW when the person who damaged my car tried to deny it, but fortunately there were too many other people around who witnessed the incident, so he had to pay up!!

If the damage is not too serious, why not get someone like Dents Master to fix it as once the damage is no longer visible you will feel better that your pride and joy is no longher dented.

PS: I take it your neighbour will no longer be on your Christmas card list [:D][:D][:D]

Get a CCTV camera (connected to a video) set up on your car- they are not that expensive. Tell your neighbour its to guard against "vandalism".

The camera is a deterant - I speak from experience as we have one, but you soon get fed up of feeding a video recorder tapes, and time-lapse ones are expensive...

I am fortunate that I a) have fenced and gated the drive way at home, and b) keep the pride and joy for events surrounded by like-minded people and have a rattly old, very dented 944 for day-to-day use.

The latter option is surprisingly cheap - it still drives as nicely, and you can enjoy really using it, taking advantage of all the times when you find a wonderful road, and would otherwise be in "the wrong car"...
In six months of parking in London I have aquired an extra two dents, and a broken drivers side mirror... it is still annoying, but I don't have to weigh up the losses against insurance costs, I just shrug my shoulders and consider it is now even less of a target. I get less people trying to carve me up in it too (and if truth be told, I am less likely to back down!).

Regards,

Tref.

My 944 was safely parked on the drive and some pillock still managed to reverse his Jeep into it. The Jeep's towball hit the 944's rear bumber squarely in the middle.
The bad thing was that I was taking the 944 down to Gawsworth Hall for a car show.
The worst thing was that it was me driving the Jeep. I tried to deny that it was me but couldn't. Have you ever tried kicking your own backside?
Cheers,

Some b'stard has dented my 44 on the rear wing, they have done £150 worth of damage and driven off, they know they have done it, but there is nowt I can do about it, oh well.

well it certainly has upset me as I probably can't afford to fix it for a while as I have a lot of stuff that needs doing like I'm getting the Cams done next month then the month after I've got tax and insurance best quote I've got so far is £3,800 (oh the joys of youthfulness)

Some 'person' has dented my 44 on the rear wing, they have done £150 worth of damage and driven off, they know they have done it, but there is nowt I can do about it, oh well.

Have you asked Fred if it was him?

Trev,
I only damage my own stuff - saves on litigation and fistycuffs.[:)] Plus the fact I know that my parents were married (to each other) so I'm not a b'stard (sic PJS917) or should that be sick PJS917 - sorry Peter, couldn't resist.

Cheers,

yeah it was Fred I saw him do it.[:D]

I must be getting old but I have changed my view about falling out with neighbours.

I fell out with mine big time even had nose to nose swearing , scowling etc but after 2 years with patience on both sides we have an understanding now. We say Hi and stuff and it is a lot easier on my nerves not to have to avoid them etc.

I reckon it would be better to explain to the moron that you value the finish on your pride and joy , point out how immaculate it is and how much work it is keeping it that way and would they please take care when parking alongside with their car doors ect.[8|]

oh and stop going through my b****y bins []

I have tried this before when I got the car and the only response was so what it's a car. what is the point in owning such a fancy car anyway? (hint of jealousy I think because they have just an old Volvo 240 estate which has more rust and mould than any thing else on the car and is like a mobile scrap heap)

I really have been trying to keep the peace with them just for the car's sake but they don't want to know they're paranoid that everyone hates them (which everyone does just because of their attitude)

sounds like a lost cause.[:(] best to just ignore them completly as if they didn't exist. either that or put a big humming dog turd on their bonnet lol

Or try and find out what there hobby is, and point out that you don't impinge on their hobby, so why should they prevent you from enjoying yours?

Your hobby is your car, their hobby is apparently rummaging through peoples bins... if that doesn't work, threaten to get up early on bind day and take all the "good stuff" out of the whole neighbourhood before they get there...

Or an extra friendly jesture, offer to deliver your rubbish direct to their doorsetp, unbagged for ease of rummaging...

I backed into my neighbours car last winter, one cold, dark, wet night when I was in a hurry. It was parked in the road instead of on the drive (no excuse I know). I took off and contemplated not owning up, hiding my car away in the garage and hoping it would blow over. Fortunately I thought better of it and confessed. Surprising how benign people react when you proactively go out your way to tell them you've just dented their new pride and joy. Not a lot they could say or do really. I put the claim on the jelopies insurance to protect my no claims and everyone won. We've got on better with them ever since!

My neighbour uses his drive to park his untaxed, unused vehicle. Its pretty mouldy now and most of the neighbours aren't pleased. I however look at it differently. The longer he's not using his drive the less likely I am for him to open his door into my car. Also, having an old banger next door does a great job of disguising my car hidden behind it!

I'm 19 and it's my 2nd car. the 20% of GT2 is one of my R/C cars but I don't really use it any more it's just an expensive static model now I think I'll sell it sometime.

Speaking of model cars I just got one of the last front engine model car sets from my local Porsche Centre and they look brilliant too.
