Are there too many Boxsters around?

I'm selling my car now due to the inadequacies of the Porsche dealer network. It's a great car but Porsche customer services have let me down on far too many occasions. Anyway, I spoke to the buyer at one Porsche dealership. He gave me an approximate price subject to inspecting it in person (which shocked me as I appear to have lost 31% of the value of my car in just over one year!).

He then said that his dealership are not buying any Boxsters as they are becoming hard to shift. Surprised me a bit!

yup they always come up with excuses like that when your trying to sell or p/e to them. the other favourate excuse is your car is an unfashionable/unsellable colour[:-]

Have to disagree with you completely. I am selling my car in September its a March 03 Boxster S and have so far been offered less than 12% depreciation by an OPC looking for the car today though! which unfortunately is a little early for me [&o]

I have aranged a price in September showing me a 15% depreciation since March 03. Obviously ones spec etc plays a part but I must stress my car is so far 5000 DRY miles and literally as brand new but with more wax on the bodywork. 100% unmarked [;)]

I was offered a cash price from the OPC recently of £30K for a £37K car, which represents around 19%. Not too bad I suppose considering 1 year is the worst depreciation time, and that I have done 14,500 miles in that year (a little trip down the autobahns accounts for 3000 of that [:D] )

The bloke at the dealers was honest though and said he thought I would be daft because he would give me £27K for it this time next year, only £3K less - by his own maths that's only £250 per month and as he said - you couldn't rent a ford for that!

He also says he does not expect the new boxster to affect residuals though because the new boxster "will be a fair bit more expensive" and there is not going to be anything in this price range (around the £30K mark).

So I'll be hanging on for another year yet!

I was also told by my local OPC, whilst disagreing about how much deposit is required for the new '05, that I was in a good posish. to sell as Boxsters are going like the preverbial hot cakes.

Perhaps I should try another OPC. The OPC that quoted me £27K for the valuation is the same OPC that sold me the car for £40K 15 months ago! I took advice from the salesman for options that are highly desirable when I come to sell the car. Now they won't even buy it back for £27K! Perhaps they know the standard of workmanship they provided when they serviced it last January ;)

It's definitely worth shopping around if you're selling. Ring a few OPCs and ask to speak to their buyer. Many of them advertise in the Sunday Times small ads. I got £2k more for my car from JCT 600 in Leeds (their buyer is a guy called Michael Betts) then I had been offered by the OPC I was buying my new car from.

The price they give you depends on their current stock, demand in their area and how quickly they would be able to sell your car. That's one reason why prices are better in summer than in winter - cars don't take as long to sell when the weather's better. My understanding is that if a dealer thinks he can't shift a car within a month, he'll reflect that in the price he gives you. At least you haven't got a white Boxster with nephrite green interior and no air con. Think how long something like that would take to sell!

Rumba if your car isn't a dog with fleas :ROFLMAO: then you should be aiming for at least £32K IMO, and my current experience with getting my own Boxster valued ...

Good Luck and my tip for the day is read between the lines / lies of those "WANTED ADS" and out there is are genuine buyers with proper money ready and waiting ..... [;)]

Thanks for all the replies. It spurred me into action and I found the Parkers Guide online (http://www.parkers.co.uk). For £2.99 for 24 hours use, you can put in your car spec (including mileage and options) and it gives you the following:

- Dealer Retail price
- Private Good condition price
- Private Poor condition price
- Part Exchange price

It only lists the options that affect resale value so you won't find options listed that are considered to have a negligible effect on resale price (it seems the major options like leather, alloys, metallic, air-con and CD-changer are the main ones that affect resale value, everything else is fairly irrelevant). I signed up for it and, surprise, surprise, the Part Exchange value of my car was £4500 more than the OPC was giving me for a part exchange!

I've got no connection with Parkers but you do often get people posting asking how much their car is worth on here and 'the other site' and for £2.99, it's good value to print out the quote and go of to your dealer armed with it to stop yourself getting fleeced! You can have as many goes as you like online and I even printed out quotes for the car that i'm going to end up buying.
