hiya all, i noticed that when i switch my heated rear window on, the electrics gauge which always stays nearer to 14v then drops between 12v and a healthy 14v, drops slightly so far its never dropped below 12v but this has not happened before and my tailgate/boot wont open, i press the button and it sounds like its not catching and refuses to open, could the both glitches be connected? and is it an easy fix? any ideas/opinions please regards jason p

If you can hear the motor whirring when you press the tail gate button then there are two probable causes.
a. the boot seal is warn and has lost all its spring so doesn't 'pop up' the boot when the motor releases hence it just re-locks itself or
b. the mechanism is not pulling the catches back far enough when the motor turns. I think this is to do with stretch in a cable but its been a long time since I messed with one of these. I can tell you that I did manage to get it working with adjustment/fiddling and didn't have to buy any parts
actually I've just thought of a c. the catch which holds the pin is made up of two clamps you can see when you look down the pin hole. I have seen one half of the clamp stick before and this can be cured by adding wd40 and forcing the clamp to move with a screw driver or similar.
Open the boot using the key (where you can turn it further than the motor does) pushing and pulling on the spoiler until it releases. Then pull the boot carpet back to reveal the mechanism. By turning the key and watching you can observe which bits are and are not working. If everything works and you can pull the boot up without resistance when the key is turned then try applying pressure to the boot and getting someone else to press the boot release button. If the boot lifts when the button is pressed then the seal needs replacing. If the boot doesn't lift or catches one side then you need to adjust both/one side of the mechanism to make it tighter.
