I’m sure I am not the only 944 owner that over the years that has roundly cursed the uncomfortable Porsche centre console armrest .(Doors rests too come to that ) . Its scarcely better than a lump of 2”x4” covered with some cheap tacky vinyl thats forever coming unstuck and curling at the edges. I find it really odd that Porsche settled on something so cheap and tacky when so much care and money was spent elsewhere in the interior.

Anyway, this week I decided at last to do something about it. I scoured the adverts for used car parts on the bay to find an armrest that would replace the stock Porsche one. I noticed several very nice examples removed from Jaguar X-types. The size seemed compatible with the Porsche centre console tray and the colour matched my linen interior so I took a punt and bought one for the princely sum of £4.00 .

I think you’ll agree that it not only looks gorgeous but it fits in quite well too. The Jaguar lid has a built in hinge bracket at the back which I bolted into the rear of the original centre console tray with 2x small drilled fixing points that are completely hidden from view. I used M3 bolts and nuts. Initially I have left the hinged part of the Porsche tray in place so that I could refit a stock Porsche lid in the future if required but I will probably end up cutting it off with a stanley knife along the hinge.

The Jaguar armrest sits about 30mm higher than stock but in exactly the same position. I tried raising the armrest 20-30mm more but went back to the original position which feels just about perfect for me with my left hand resting on the gearshift.

What do you think ? is it a winner or is it sacriledge in your view.

Apologies for the miserable image quality but conditions have been, photographically speaking, somewhat challenging today to say the least with high contrast levels.
There has been a large bright orb high in the sky most of the morning.... I heard someone say it is called the Sun.....

looks nice but not my cup of tea...nothing to do with the looks or non OEM although I am a fan of keeping most things as Porsche intended in looks/design terms. What would stop me from doing the same is the height of the pad...my driving style (when in touring mode) is to have my arm resting on the lid, it's just the right height and angle for my hand to fit around the gear knob to change gear.

Other than that it looks nice and neat, a professional look.......:)

cheers

Looks good, now you need to replace the ashtray, looks tired compared to the armrest!
you just had to mention the ashtray Chris :ROFLMAO:
When I looked through the pics I though blimey what a mess the car is in with mud on the carpets, switch missing, the gear shift cover has come off and i can't seem to get it to fit back on . .....but the armrest looks good though![;)]

Is that a ford stereo I see? What made you fit that?
ah ha ! you spotted that eh ..

I've fitted a Ford 6000 CD unit in all my cars for the past 10 years now.
My closeup eyesight has deteriorated markedly over the years and has just got worse still with Diabetes . I cannot see anything clearly in the cab so I have to press each switch in turn until whatever I wanted to turn on turns on ! :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

So I find myself going down the road with the sunroof going up and down and the mirrors swiveling all over the place and the rear wiper on lol

I really love the Ford unit. It has truly exceptional sound quality limited only by the naff porsche speakers. plus I can see all the buttons clearly and work the radio and CD player whilst driving. I have a box full of expensive panasonics and Sony stereo units I've taken out of various cars which have buttons so tiny ,only a small child could operate them.
