Arm rest

Decided to strip down my arm rest as its a job I can do indoors, the reason to do it was that the posts the frame part fits into were broken and the screws no longer gripped

Repaired the posts with the plastic repair kit

Off to local trimmer tomorrow to pick up a piece of grey leather to recover it

I will post a picture of it finished

Pretty easy, what part is broken on yours, the hinge is available from Porsche about £12

the covering was a lump of leather obtained for free from the local trimmers, think it took about an hour to do

looks good, not sure what part.

I have the leather bit in tact.

It is just that the upper leather but has come apart from the black storage section.

see picture below

to disguise it, I can just leave the upper section on top to make it look presentable, but it does not work in reality, see picture below

any advice would be much appreciated

You just need the hinge, I can sort you out the part number for that

where are you located in the country, I'm sure I have seen that car up close before

That would be great, I'm located in East London, Hackney.

I have only recently purchased it a month ago.

Perhaps, you may have seen the car with the previous owner.

PS - still getting used to the car.....one thing, I know it does have Power steering, but do you find the steering heavy? Is that normal? Or you reckon its something that needs checking?

the hinge part is 945 552 553 01 01C £11, Give Steve Mathiot a call at east London Porsche he will order you one.

If you want a comparison car to take a look at I don't live that far away, J26 M25 Waltham Abbey.

you welcome to come and have a drive of my manual to see how they differ.

as a word to the wise a lot of parts are cheaper from Porsche (OPC) than ebay or other places.

heavy steering can be caused by the steering shaft joints being knackered, mine was heavy and notchy until I changed it

Amusing that the OPC price is a lot cheaper than any listing on Ebay - the listing I posted was the cheapest (about £18 IIRC) - and also said the part was NLA from Porsche!! How many times have we said "Check with OPC before looking elsewhere"!!

nice one mate, much appreciated, I might take you up on that offer

Another option is to come along to the 968uk GTG at The Grasshopper, Westerham, Sat 21 May from 11.30 - meet a few other 968 owners, possibly only 1 sensible enough to own a tiptronic (me - have had a 968 tip for about 16-17 years now!!).

Having repaired replaced serviced or just generally fettled about 90% of my car there is not much I don't know about them now

@ waylander, by they way any recommendation on a porsche specialist to carry out repairs / service in the east London / Essex area? I reckon i will need to get the steering looked at per your previous messsage

that sounds good, is there a link to more details on the meeting? Do I need to register?
You're already in the process of registering on 968uk so no need to do anything further - other than turn up! it's just a meet-up starting about 11.30 to give time for a gossip before (should you so wish) a bite of lunch. Google the pub name for location, it's on the A25 just West of Westerham. Plus it's in the Events sub forum of 968uk once you're registered there.

by that statement I you hazard a guess your not a hands on spanners type of owner, in which case I can recommend Tony at Carrera Enginering in Nazing (between Waltham abbey and Harlow )

also so I think it's called DSD near Brentwood they are also FE lovers

if you fancy doing it yourself I can offer some assistance, and or advice.

you can always pm me
