the air intake on my 79 sc seems pretty poor. the air box sucks in warm air from the engine bay and has duckting sat right in front of it. Is there a K&N type filter available out there? has anyone improve there air intake? answers on a postcard

Craig do not fit K&N filters to a road car , that is my advice. The CIS paper filter is extremely efficient at removing dust from the air and protecting the engine whilst still sucking in enough to power the 3.3 turbo, there is nothing wrong with the CIS induction, however there are questions about the ability of K&Ns to protect the engine. If you want to improve the sound and performance of your SC fit early heat exchangers or SSIs and a Triad West Performance 2 in 2 out exhaust. If you want to improve the look and maybe get the sound you want without compromising engine reliability try here.

Or fit a CIS to EFI kit and a good air filter .

If you don't like the look of the pipes in the engine bay you can always backdate the heating system, make the engine more accessible for servicing and lose some weight too.

I run one on my car (OK, nothing else would fit !), and have done for 10 years, with no down side.

But, it was purely down to necessity.

I agree with peter lots of research has been carried out, there is no restriction on the intake side. although I did run mine last week with no airfilter lid during some maintenance and it sounded fantastic. [;)]

You probabaly maintain it properly John , most people forget they are in there once fitted.
