At last I finally own a 944! (well 30% anyway!)

At last I am finally the 30% owner of a 88 944 2.5 8v!

Basically I went in to it with my pops, he already has a 300ZX twin Turbo, which is his weekend and track car, although only doing about 2 miles per gallon around town he needed a work car, so with the guidance of his well read 25 year old son (me!) We agreed that I would also part pay for it and later this year buy the rest off of him.

However I just wanted to know what you guys though of this.

It is a "F" 88 2.5 8v in Guards red, with 110k with full porsche serivce history, HPI clear and fully checked. The usual half leatherette, body work is pretty good, with just a couple of scuffs and the doors at one point have been replaced (There is a slight colour difference). Interior is pretty good, with all eletrics working and no crack on the dash.

Ready for a pre christmas private sale cash deal of £2200!

Has gone in for a full service with all belts changed and the rollers checked, and a few little bits sorted which is costing around £500, so we should have a pretty nice example of a 944 for £2700!

I would have preferred a 2.7 or pre 88 due to the compression ratio, but generally I am pretty chuffed!

Hi Kel, glad to hear you finally found one [:D]

I wouldn't really worry about the differences between a 2.7 or pre 88 as the main thing is the condition of the one you have. It sounds like you have a good deal and you're wisely getting the main things sorted straight away, so heres to many years trouble free Porschering [:)]

Welcome to the gang Kel.

If I may be so bold, I would recommend that you look after the 30% in the middle and let your dad sort out all the bits at the front and the back. [;)]

HA HA HA HA, I laughed. [:)] Such traulma, such upset, tears and worry.

Your best bet is go out and buy a complete dog for him to learn in. I undersatnd someone is selling a Metro GTi in your neck of the woods. :ROFLMAO:

LOL!

Well the way that we are working it is that he will pay for the mantainance/services for the car and any major work we are going in half for, Just found out that all of the Rollers needed replacing which have been done so I am hoping that this will mean a good 30k of relatively trouble free motoring.

I have not been to any club meetings yet, certainly I would love to, but I think I will wait for the respray and retrim, I would want the car to be looking as original as possible to show her off, and looking at the pictures of your 944's they are all in really beautiful condition and would certainly show mine up, also the majority of you guys have the posh S2's and turbos!

However the thing that I wouls like to say, that both me and my pops are certainly enjoying it, and the handling is unbelieveably good, it is probably the best handling car I have driven, even against the 300zx which has been Dyno at 487bhp, the 944 simply can hit corners much faster and the 300 can't keep up around tight bends!

I do have one question, when I finally get the rest of the car off of my dad is has actually fallen in love with the idea of getting another Porsche he was thinking, (I think of a 928, the big brother of the water cooled, the one in Risky business with Tom Cruise!) but there does not seem to be any particularly good buying guides, as anyone on there travels of the net uncovered any good sites?

Kind Regards, and I will look forward to attending some meetings

Chris

All are welcome at meets and most look better in pics than under close scrutiny, lots of have had lux's before and still have a fondness for them, a few have lux and turbo/s2.

As Tony has said don't be put off by our photos you can make most cars look good in a photo.

we have a right mixed bag of people and cars coming to our meetings. infact you don't actually have to show up in your Porsche. as long as your enthusiastic about the make your be very welcome. it can be a very useful source of local information on everything porsche.

My Turbo front looks like it's been sandblasted and the car has moss growing on it (OK, it would be tricky to get it to a meet and I won't take it out looking quite that bad) and my cab has a dent and has been to a meet like that. Don't worry what it looks like...

Oh yes, that'll be me for one.

Don't worry about how good you car looks, get out and drive it. In the winter it's too dark to see the cars at our regional meet any way. Many come in their other/work cars as they don't see the point in getting the Porsche out in the winter (light weights).

In my limitted experience, meets are much more about the people. While we are all more than happy to compare spark plug leads, many have seen it all before and may not be quite as enthusiastic to see (say) your new interior as perhaps you might be to show it off. On the other hand, if people have seen your car in it's pre-refurbished state they will be much more interested to see what has been done subsequently.

In summary - There will always be cars in better condition, as well as worse, and you wont get to enjoy a meeting unless you are there. [:)]

I certainly see your point,
And certainly it would be great to get tips and share experiences in order to learn how to better mantain her, and of course knowing where the best places are for parts and services.

I guess that showing off is for the people that don't have the magic badge on there car that says "Porsche".
