It's the upper universal joint of the steering shaft. I'm not sure of the details but it's one that is still outstanding on a lot of cars apparently.

Gaz,
Any OPC should be able to tell you but Porsche Centre Byfleet were recently running a check for anyone who would send them their VIN.
To repeat something that Steve Brookes posted late last year:
To find out if there are any recalls on your car just send an e-mail to David Kneen at Porsche Centre Byfleet: recalls@porschebyfleet.co.uk.
Send him your full VIN no, registration number (only for verification of VIN if any discrepancies arise) , club membership number and post code (first 4 digits only needed). You'll probably get an e-mail back the next day with information. If there are any recalls, you'll then be contacted by your local Porsche Centre to book the car in for the work. No cost to you.
Regards
Dave
