You guys always welcome to pop in if going via tunnel. Just let me know.

Oldie but goodie.

Allegedly the German air controllers at Frankfurt Airport are renowned as a short-tempered lot. They, it is alleged, not only expect one to know one's gate parking location, but how to get there without any assistance from them. So it was with some amusement that we (a Pan Am 747) listened to the following exchange between Frankfurt ground control and a British Airways 747, call sign Speedbird 206.
Speedbird 206: "Frankfurt, Speedbird 206 clear of active runway."
Ground: "Speedbird 206. Taxi to gate Alpha One-Seven." The BA 747 pulled onto the main taxiway and slowed to a stop.
Ground: "Speedbird, do you not know where you are going?"
Speedbird 206: "Stand by, Ground, I'm looking up our gate location now."
Ground (with quite arrogant impatience): "Speedbird 206, have you not been to Frankfurt before?"
Speedbird 206 (coolly): "Yes, twice in 1944, but it was dark,"¦ and I didn't land."

Chocks away Ginger.

Cheers,

Off to the Ring in a few minutes.
Sun is shining, should be perfect. Ready to meet task force, pointy helmet aboard, accent perfect.
I´m surprised, Speckled Jim is back in service. Will hand over all the lupins I´ve got in case I have to.

Hacki,

leaving the Cup car at home and using my armoured crew vehicle (Volvo estate) to deploy the troops around the Nordschleife

The Squirrels are in the trees ...

Probably!

A great weekend, great racing, perfect weather - we couldn´t have asked for more.

We saw real racing on the Nordschleife, all sorts of classic cars driven in absolute anger. 935s, RSRs (the old ones!), a 904, 911s, 356s, Escort Mk I, a Morgan, two Marcos (!), etc..
More classic racing took place on the GP circuit, historic Formula 2, Formula V, sidecars (!), touring cars, ... As posted before, the event is highly recommended.

A special thanks to Saz, Martin, Rich and his brother Steve for coming, organizing and the great company!

Rgds,

Hacki

P.S.: Some of the usual suspects were missed, you´d have loved to be there.

We counted three out. We counted three back again.

Just returned home from the Ring and the long drive home. Stopped at Spa on the way back "because it's there" and found Porsches and McLarens enjoying a VIP trackday.

What a fantastic weekend at the Nürburgring. Great cars, great racing, great company, great moments and all topped off with a Ring Taxi run on Sunday afternoon for me, Saz and Martin which was simply awesome!! 600bhp twin-turbo M5. Circa 7m35-40s bridge to gantry. I'm still grinning over a day later. [:D]

The Historic Trophy Eifelrennen is such a good event. Would be nice to see some of the usual suspects there in the future?

Great to spend time with you Kommandant Hacki. I'm still learning how to get free dessert. Enjoy the book! [:)]

Hacki's room with a view...
