August Drive Out to the Lakes

New member
As proposed in PP we're planning a run over to the Lake District on 21st August 2011.[FONT=verdana,geneva"] R3 members are to meet, provisionally at 9.00am at Barnard Castle for the 2 hour (approx) drive down through the Yorkshire Dales via Butter Tubs Pass and on to the Lakeland Motor Museum.

Butter Tubs Pass is a spectacular high mountain road which leads across the moors. This route is now known as Jeremy Clarksons favourite route in the whole of Yorkshire, as he describes it as "England's only truly spectacular road".[FONT=verdana, geneva"][FONT=verdana, geneva"]

Details for the Lakeland Motor Museum are, (http://www.lakelandmotormuseum.co.uk/) [FONT=verdana, geneva"] On the proviso that we have more than 20 people attend they've offered us a "Porsche only" car park, discounted rate of £6 per person for museum entry, or £14.50 for museum entry & return lake cruise to Bowness with a free bus shuttle to the ferry landing so cars can remain in museum car park. If boats aren't your thing there's also a steam train trip available for £5.50.[FONT=verdana,geneva"]

We would like to invite any other members and regions to join us on the run or meet us at the museum on the day.

Please can anyone who is interested in this drive out & meet, let us know ASAP in order to give us an idea of numbers.

Cheers Dave

Paul I live in Prudhoe and what we normally do is a few of us meet on the A68 on the way south to events. You are more than welcome to meet up with us somewhere on route if you wish.
Best wishes Greg.

Hi Greg

I'm only in Stocksfield then, that would be great if we could do that, drive down in convoy, same for Raby castle aswell maybe ?

Cheers [:D]

Hi Dave,

Afraid I can't make this one as we're away that weekend. Took TIPEC NE region to the Lakeland Motor Museum last year and it is definitely worth a look. Food was pretty good too [:D]

Hi Jim

I don't think i'm going to be to bothered about the train or boat ride, been on them before, but fancy going round the Lakeland Motor Museum again, after that would be interested in the Cumbria Classic at Dalemain Hall.

Whats the details on that, tickets, free entry etc etc ?

Cheers Paul [;)]

HI

Maybe missed something - but are we taking picnic lunch or eating somewhere? Got to get the priorities right!

Julie

The worlds your oyster Julie.
Cafe at the motor museum is meant to be really good!
Also if you are taking the cruise up to Bowness lots of cafe's and tearooms pubs etc I'm told. The cruise takes about 40 mins to get to Bowness so plenty of time to chill and have a picnic also.
See http://www.windermere-lakecruises.co.uk/timetable.php
for the ferry timetable. The museum are expecting us anytime 21/08/2011 from 10.30 onwards and have assured us that we can still park our car's in the overflow car park.
Unfortunately due to us not been able to guarantee numbers they can not put on the bus to the lakeside for our cruise to Bowness.
However the cruise company have very kindly offered us special parking at the lakeside which will be exclusive to us. This is only a five minute drive from the museum.
Fingers crossed for the weather and see you next week.

Totty,
Cumbria Classic cars have to ne in place for 9.30 so if you do decide to come and look it willl be much later, but general parking is next field and will probably not be subject to charge later on ????
Too late to arrange tickets etc now but should maybe look at this next year as we are trying to ramp up the Porsche prescense.
What ever will see you at Raby, will be in the black thing !!

If we aren't at the Smelters at 0800 we'll see you at Barnard Castle at 0900, not sure if we will have dogs and horses sorted in time to get there, so may be playing catch up til we get to Barney!

Julie
