Member News
Welcome to new members Scott Ogden (Warrington, 997 Carrera S), Clive Brundret (Crewe, 996 C4), Anthony Pratt (Chadderton, 944S), David Pool (Nantwich), Howard Ribchester (Rochdale, 996 C2), Alistair Dootson & Natasha Goodwin (Tarporley, 911 3.2), Peter Cook (Oakmere), Jim Carr & Ms Fovargue (Sandbach, 944 2.5), Martin Barnes (Manchester M21, Boxster 2.5), Louis & Jeanne Collins (Tarvin, 996 C2) and New World Motorsports Ltd (Altringham). You have just missed our annual New Members Night, but you are just as welcome at any time during the year, so come along and meet some of your fellow R5 members and find out more about what the Club has to offer.
Next R5 Event
The next R5 event is our 11 August Club Night, at The Deanwater Hotel, starting at 2000. An increasing number of members, including Keri and I, gather about an hour earlier to eat in the hotel restaurant, so if that should suit you too please join us. (See also "Forthcoming Events" below.)
Porsches at Arley Hall - Update No.3
As I write this, the other half of my desk is covered in various, not-so-neat piles of paper, several chopped-off A4 envelopes are pinned to my notice board, below the Helpers, Display Car and Concours Entrants lists and the seemingly endless To Do list, and on the wall facing me, fixed with blutack, is the latest version of the arena layout. And my printer is still "˜groaning', having churned out a mountain of Entry Tickets in various colours, depending for which category of participant they are intended. The envelopes variously contain cheques from stall holders and for advance-purchase tickets, and SAEs for tickets (including those for the Oulton Park "Gold Cup"), whilst the piles of paper include amongst other things receipts for expenditure, lists of, and correspondence with potential stall holders, and the household correspondence I am largely ignoring!
There have been only two major developments subsequent to Update 2, viz: within the arena area there will now also be a large Help for Heroes stand, complete with climbing wall and assault course, not to mention military hardware, manned by soldiers from the 1st Battalion Mercian Regiment (The Cheshires) recently returned from active service in Afghanistan; and, following a poor response from individual members of the Morgan Sports Car Club, we have invited an alternative "Guest Car Club". The response to date for help on the day is encouraging, but more is needed, so please take a look at the list of tasks sent out with my July Newsletter and let me know when and with what you can give a hand. We have only just started assembling the "60 Years of Porsches", so there are as yet many gaps to fill, so please also look at the list accompanying this Newsletter and contact me if you would like to display a car we are seeking; or, for that matter, anything more exotic. Condition is not important; it's the range of models we want to display. (Both of the aforesaid lists will shortly also be on the R5 website.)
There will be just one more Update before the event (in my September Newsletter) and I would like to think that by then all outstanding matters will have been resolved. Needless to say, that is just too naïve and I do not doubt the organising team will still be working hard. So if there are any pleas for help, do get in touch if you can assist us.
2010 Christmas Celebration
Support for the Region's customary Christmas Dinner, on our December Club Night, has waned in recent years. From enquiries I have made of members who used to be regular participants it seems this drop in support is in the main due to the number of similar functions with which they are involved in the lead-up to Christmas. Accordingly, in an attempt to overcome that obstacle, we are experimenting this year by deferring our Christmas Celebration until our January 2011 Club Night, and we will be seeking ideas from you at the Planning Workshop referred to below as to what sort of celebration you would prefer.
FORTHCOMING R5 EVENTS
August 11 Club Night
At The Deanwater Hotel. As last year, this will be an informal evening, with no organised activity, at which members can enjoy a relaxed evening, exchanging the craic. For any new members present (or, for that matter, any member who might be interested) I will try to give a succinct account of how the Club operates both at its HQ at Cornbury House and in the Regions and via the Registers.
August 29/30 HSCC "Gold Cup", Oulton Park
See my Newsdesk announcement in July's edition of PP for details. Although the complimentary ticket offer closed on 31 July, I have contrived to have a few spare tickets, so if anybody would like one please contact me, preferably by e-mail. In addition, you can still obtain discounted tickets by going to www.motorsportvision.co.uk.
September 8 Club Night
At The Deanwater Hotel. A presentation on pre-purchase inspections is planned, but is still unconfirmed. See September Newsletter or the Forum for an up-date.
September 19 "Summer Sunday" - Port Sunlight
See August's edition of PP for details, and please let me know if you plan to attend, as it helps the Tame Valley Vintage & Classic Car Club to know how many cars to expect.
September 26 "Porsches at Arley Hall"
Just over six weeks to go to this, our new Regional Event. If you remember the hey days of our former event at Tatton Park, or, for that matter, are too new to the Club to know about it, this is going to be so much better in every way; so don't miss it. And please help us by sending in your advance-purchase ticket application and Concours entry forms (copies with this Newsletter).
