You have become members of the Club just weeks before R5's family orientated Regional Event, "Porsches at Arley Hall 2011", on Sunday 11 September. Last year's event at Arley Hall "" our first at this new, much liked venue "" was a huge success, and I am confident the 2011 event will be better in every way. So please make a date to join us and help R5 lay claim to organising one of the Club's best Regional Events. Please also see my plea below for help with the running of the event.
Next R5 Event
The next R5 event is a Certificate of Authentication Morning at PC Wilmslow on Saturday 20 August, between 0900 and 1300. See "FORTHCOMING R5 EVENTS" below for more information.
Communications
The Club monthly magazine Porsche Post is, and will remain the principle method of communicating information to members on both National events and those organised by the Regions & Registers. Hence, you are asked to not view my Newsletters as an alternative to Porsche Post, but as a supplement to it and, more particularly, a means of alerting you to information that becomes available after the deadline for submitting copy for Porsche Post.
That said, please also keep an eye on the R5 Section of the Club Forum for my recently introduced "Next Event" posts and any eleventh-hour announcements - and please let me know in due course, preferably by e-mail, if you favour this method of communication.
Porsches at Arley Hall 2011: Helper Appeal No. 2
With just four weeks to go to our second Regional Event at Arley Hall, on 11 September, the organising team is wrapping up the second phase of their work (viz. the preparations) and readying itself for the final, implementation phase. There have been a few setbacks on the way, but fortunately we have been able to find substitute suppliers, etc and, but for any eleventh-hour calamities, everything we planned will be there on the day.
That is all well and good, of course, but without the help of you, the members, we will not be able to deliver the event. So if you have yet to volunteer for a stint on one or more of the Helper Teams below, please contact me right away, preferably by e-mail. Regrettably all Helpers will, like me and the other Committee Members, have to pay the normal entry charge, but we will provide breakfast for those of you who volunteer for the "˜dawn raid'.
Setting-up Team Nine 'dawn raid' Helpers are needed at 0630, split into separate Gangs, each with its own Leader, for a range of tasks including erecting bunting & the like, two gazebos and the refreshment marquee.
Entry Control & Parking Team A total of 13 Helpers is needed to man the two entrance "˜gates', plus a further three to direct cars to their Register parking areas, viz:
Main "˜gate' "" working in pairs, for ninety minutes, at 1000, 1130, 1300 & 1430
Visitor "˜gate' "" working singly, for an hour, at 1100, 1200, 1300, 1400 & 1500
Parking "" working singly for an hour, at 1000, 1100 & 1200
Refreshments Team Eight Helpers are needed, to work in pairs in the refreshments marquee serving tea, coffee & soft drinks, and biscuits, for an hour, at 1000, 1100, 1200 & 1300.
Club Shop Team We will be offering a small range of Club Shop wares for sale, and four Helpers will be needed for this task, working singly, for ninety minutes, at 1100, 1230, 1400 & 1530.
See the attached Concours entry/advance-purchase ticket application form for details of the event attractions and directions to Arley Hall. But please do not send me any ticket application forms after 2 Sept as I cannot be sure Royal Mail will deliver your tickets in time.
R5 Planning Questionnaire
It is not too late to complete and return the Questionnaire issued with my March Newsletter.
FORTHCOMING R5 EVENTS
August 20 Certificate of Authenticity Morning, PC Wilmslow
At the instigation of PC Wilmslow's new Service Manager, Andrew Reeves, R5 members are invited to drop in at the Centre between 0900 and 1300 to complete Certificate of Authenticity applications for their cars. The said Certificates are a Porsche Cars GB initiative, to provide Porsche owners with a document authenticating the build date and key specification details of their cars. The normal price for this service is £65.00, but it is free to all UK resident Club members, and on this occasion PC Wilmslow staff will be on hand to help complete the application forms and arrange for them to be processed. All you will need to have is your Club Membership Card and, ideally, a note of where and when the car was first purchased.
To make the visit even more worthwhile, your car can have a complimentary "Health Check" (which you can observe) and, should it need it, a wash'n'vac, and there will be a free prize draw for a weekend's use of a Cayman R and free tickets to the classic Shelsley Walsh sprint meeting on the following day, refreshments and "˜goodie bags'.
Please let me know if you will be attending, preferably by e-mail, to help PC Wilmslow have an appropriate number of Workshop and other personnel available.
August 28/29 "˜Gold Cup' Race Meeting, Oulton Park
R5 will have its customary stand at this highly popular HSCC race meeting, on which Club members who applied in time for complimentary passes will be displaying their cars (and enjoying a free weekend of exciting racing). Even if you did not request a pass, you are still welcome on the stand; that is if you can blag your way past the Oulton Park Stewards!
Sept 2 - 4 Club 50th Anniversary Event
All the information you could want on this, the Club's most significant and ambitious event in its entire history, can be found in the last few editions of Porsche Post. R5 will have a Region stand at the RAC, Cirencester, on the Saturday and Sunday (3 & 4 September). On-stand parking is restricted but there will be plenty of space within the adjacent Register areas, so park there and then bring your picnic chairs and other paraphernalia over to the R5 stand, where, amongst other things, we will have an "RS Evolution" display.
Sept 13 Club Night
At the Deanwater Hotel, starting at our regular time of 2000 and featuring a presentation on the varied aspects of his work by a Specialist Police Officer.
OTHER CLUB ACTIVITIES
Please note this information is provided solely to alert you to other Porsche events at venues not too far from home that you may wish to attend. It does not mean any formal R5 presence is planned.
