auto glass

With Autoglass it very much depends on the individual fitter. They did the rear screen on my daughter's Beemer a couple of months ago, and the fitter was excellent. Very courteous, carefully removed the broken glass and adhesive, and was very careful to fit the new one precisely right - I popped out every few minutes to check up, which he didn't mind me doing. I guess it is pot luck though, as others may well tell a different story.

hi there ,
has anyone used auto glass for a cayman 2010 windscreen replacement, and any feedback will be appreciated
cheers

Steve, The only point I would make if you're using Autoglass is that probably they'll want to use their own (cheaper?) windscreen supplier rather than source it from a PC, saying that's all your insurer will sanction price-wise. You might want to contact your insurer to see if they'll allow you to have the screen supplied and fitted at your local PC. They usually have a "tame" local fitter who's familiar with the job and will use the correct procedures and bonding material but you may have to fork out more than your standard windscreen excess for the priviledge. unfortunately they will only allow me to use auto glass, any other I have to pay in full😥 sws

Hi Steve Is the car under Porsche warranty as Porsche will invalidate your warranty if you don't have it fitted by them and fit a genuine screen. This is also one advantage of insuring your car through Porsche as they will pay for Porsche to do it. In my case it was cheaper as well. However my previous Insurer said that if it happened I could have the screen changed at an OPC as long as I paid the difference. Its the sort of question you need to ask before you buy. Another one is modifications, I found out by accident that most insurers when you state the car is modified will only pay out up to £500 for damage to modified parts. I have a £2,500 Sports exhaust on mine so that is not a lot of use is it. Good luck Trevor

Interestingly, I have Porsche Insurance on my Cayenne and when recently had a side window smashed Autoglass were insisted upon. They did an excellent job at their own premises, whilst I waited,(and kept an eye on progress). In answer to the OP, my son had a crack on his Cayman windscreen and Autoglass did a clean and tidy job. The screen is apparently made by the same manufacturer as the original but not badged Porsche.

Hi All Please see link to Porsche Insurance. http://www.porschehost.com/porscheinsurance.asp?opc=1 On this sites it says. â—¾All repairs are carried out at a Porsche Centre or Approved Body Repair Centre. This guarantees a Porsche-trained Technician using only Genuine Porsche Parts Trevor

As with all things insurance the devil's in the detail. To benefit from the windscreen cover with the £75 excess I had to use Autoglass. If I had insisted on the OPC doing the work then it would count as a claim and the full £400 excess would come into play. As this was a side window it would have been more than the job was worth.

Manning allow you to use OPC, but tbh most insurers should also allow you if you haggle enough.
