Auto windscreen wipers question

I have a rain sensor fitted to my 997.1. The problem is I cannot seem to activate the sensor. When I knock the stalk upwards , it wipes once and then repeats on a set interval. The intervals can be adjusted with the toggle switch. How do they operate? I would expect them to stop wiping when there is no rain? Any guidance would be greatly appreciated, many thanks

Wipers all sorted , the previous owner had the sensor uncoded and reverted to intermittent wipe , the program was reloaded and voila all sorted.

The sensor works only when the wiper up is moved up to the first click. Sensitivity is adjusted by the little rocker switch on the column (Yes, the same one that adjusts the intermittent period setting) Higher for more sensitivity, lower for less. It may take a while for the system to adjust if your screen isn't wet.

Ah - Alrighty then :)

My car was marketed with auto sensor but I can see no evidence of that working. Is there a way I can check if the "hardware" is even in existence? What should I look for and where - in other words, is it visible anywhere e.g. by the wipers? Thank you

If you follow your rear view mirror down the tube from out side your car, you will see a round circle with a sensor inside it. Porsche diagnostic software can adjust , programme and test if it's working. Mine needed reprogramming after no fault could be found . If it does, you can tell because it will revert to intermittent wipers when using your select switch on your stalk.
