Autofarm 3.7 engine upgrade for BoxsterS 986

I am new to this forum so first things first; Hi to you all. [:)]

There is a 3.7 litre engine mod for the 3.2 Boxter on the Autofarm webpage.
My question to you guys; has anyone here done this mod or knows of someone that has done this mod?
My 2002 S has all the easy work done to get more power. Any additional mods are in the serious chash category.

All opinions are welcome.

For the people using various forums, I have posted a similar question on the BoXa.net
The price tag for this mod is in the region of £10k so I want to make sure I get as much information as possible before I part with the cash.[;)]

3.7 litres is pretty much pushing the engine block to its biggest capacity - I've no doubt Autofarm have done their research and know all the pitfalls of failing M96 engines, but how many of these engines exist on the road, and how many have sufficicent miles on them to get any confidence ?

At the money i'd want a long cast iron warranty from Autofarm for long term peace of mind.

We've got a register visit coming up to Autofarm in the next couple of months (details yet to be decided)

An ideal opportunity to quiz them... [8D]

911 & Porsche World ran an Autofarm re-engineered / linered M96 for quite a while and experienced no problems.

True - but they only added about 12k miles to it. I'd want a bit more reassurance than that. As i've said Autofarm are no doubt confident in their mods, just they don't have 100s of thousands of miles testing behind them.

Hi Pitsnow, what are the 'easy' mods to get more power from a 986 3.2 S?
Thanks,
Richard
Hi Richard
My Boxster has a full Superspring exhaust/ manifold with 200cell cats, Proscheshop induction system with K&N filter and a superchip remap. +20ft/lb and 263BHP.

Thanks for the other replys.
I take it that there are not many Boxters with this mod then?
Must have someting to do with the cost of it.

Cost most certainly - there is a guy on Boxa.net that had a supercharger fitted by ninemeister in Warrington - its very much a development car, as they normally do the chargers on 996 or 993/964s. He has a lot of power, well into the mid 300s if not more. I guess his bill is somewhere near £10k now too, although a simple s'charger upgrade can be had for around £6k. Doesn't quite sound right to my ears for a Porsche though.

I've seen a std MY 2000 S make 265 on the rollers with just the supersprint exhaust fitted, without the free flow cats and remap. Maybe your figures are more pessimistic ?

The dyno figures could be many things. I am not too concerned about absolute figures.
The benefit of the modification was the increase of 20ft-lb of torque from 3500 onwards before and after.
It made a noticable difference to the car. And the sound of the Supersprint with the cats is worth the modification on its own.

The Nienmeister car (Ninjainblue of BoXa.net) will be a very quick car indeed. I have seen the car last week in Rockingham. A Rotrex supercharger may be an option but it would be a lot more complex than the 3.7
