Automatic Problem

My Wife was driving the Automatic Lux

About a mile from home she pulled away from traffic light and the car started making a very loud noise.

I checked the engine over then started it.

It sounded like a cross between a blowing exhaust and mechanical knocking.

I was half expecting the new exhaust to be hanging off or a blown head gasket but when
gently increasing the revs the noise level dropped.

I put the car on ramps to check underneath.......then I found it......

a pile of black cotton wool on the floor....

anybody guessed yet?

The black cotton wool was infact rubber!

It is being forced out of the inspection hole in the bell housing.....must be the damper

I heard that these crack up (and are expensive) but this one must of exploded!

Anybody with experience of this.

Mike

Fixed.......

Damper £538

Fitting £370

Not many people know this.......unlike a clutch model the torque tube has a circlip on the end, so you have to take the bell housing off with the torque tube and damper in place after removing 9 bolts through the starter hole......pain in the butt.

Am I the only Auto owner?

No Mike - you're not on your own - I also have an auto, but hope I don't run in to the same problem you had as it looks a bit pricey to resolve!

Regards

Nathan
