Automatic spoiler operation

I would like to temporarily disable the rear spoiler on my 996, so that it does not automatically rise up at 70 mph. (In trying to change a bulb in the brake light within this spoiler I appear to have broken the catch, and I don't like the thought of that light pack flying off the back of the car if I was to "inadvertently" slip over 70 mph and the spoiler lifted).

Is it just a case of removing a fuse, and if so which one and where?

Secondly, is there a special knack to refitting the catch of the brake light pack in the spoiler? (i.e. the small white plastic bit that you turn with a screwdriver). Not sure if I've broken mine or am just being useless, but I can't seem to make it lock back in place.

You could remove the fuse, but you will get the spoiler warning light in the instrument cluster. Careful going over 70mph! If you see the rear of your car in front of you, you know what's happened. [:D]

The fuse panel is in the driver's footwell. Pull off the plastic cover and all will be revealed. On your car (MY2001) the spoiler fuse is D7 (4th row down, 7th in from the left). You will find a yellow fuse extractor tool inside the fuse box.

Thanks Richard - the attached instructions are slightly different from ones I had so I shall try again with a proper fix before resorting to the fuse removal option.

Hope you are enjoying your Cayman - it looks good in your avatar. Just don't take on a 996T at the lights!
