Auxiliary oil cooler fan

Can anyone tell me if the fitting of a cooling fan to the oil cooler in the R/H front wheel arch was an option for a 1989 year model?
Without getting too dirty, I can find no evidence of one being fitted to my car. - No wires inside the luggage compartment and no relay in the Fuse box.
The Bentley manual seems to indicates that a fan may not be fitted.

The car is totally original, to the best of my knowledge, in this respect.

Thanks

The Bentley book is a US publication where, I believe, the fan was fitted as standard. We are deemed not to be so lucky in the UK when it comes to high temperatures. As the car was designed as a mile eater it is a shame the fan wasn't fitted as standard to cover when we visit hotter climates on our travels, or get stuck in M25 traffic jams.

I am planning a trip this weekend and with temperatures expected to be high, and travelling on the M25, I am trying to ensure no problems.
At least I won't go looking for something that isn't there.

Thanks

Will

I don't think they need it. I have never seen the temp guage get any further than the top white line, and this was after spending what felt like a life time trying to get to the Le Mans campsite crawling through traffic for hours in extreme heat. Typically though, once the tent was up it started to rain [&:]

Mine went to half way between the upper white line and the top line after sitting in slow moving traffic for about an hour and a half on a scorchio day, the oil pressure also dropped to under 1 bar at tickover, it took a long time for the temp to come down again once on the move again as well

I was in the same position as you a few years ago. I go over to the continent for holidays and to visit our daughter and sometimes in very hot conditions I do worry about the tempature of the oil. Not only does it lubricate it cools the engine as well.
I had seen the pictures in the Bentley manual and you can order the parts from Porsche as they are listed for the 3.2 Carrera but the price is high even with Club discount.
So I installed a Pacet 7" blower fan which fits nicely infront of the cooler. The part number is TCF 0711B and it cost about £80, significantly less then the £300+ for the Porsche bits. The fan shifts nearly 400 cubic feet of air a minute so I am confident it will do everything right on the Porsche.
However, we have just returned from 3 weeks in France including much time near the south coast in 35 degrees C and never once needed to use the fan but we were never stationary in traffic. Least I know it is there if it is necessary.
I have the fan wired into a manual switch but it would be easy to attach a thermestatic switch to bring the fan on.
I hope this is of interest, I can supply photographs if you want some.
All the Best
ALAN
