AUXILIARY OIL COOLER SEAL

I have recently been cleaning out the wheel arches of my 1988 Carrera Cabriolet and found that the seal for the auxiliary oil cooler is disintegrating. Having done a little research on Pelican Parts forums it appears that it might be possible to replace the seal without disconnecting the oil feeder pipes and making the task more of a major job.

Could anyone help me with some advice? I would ideally like to replace the seal myself but if it requires the disconnection of the pipework etc then it is probably beyond my skills and will need to be done by a specialist?

I would be grateful to hear from anyone who has done the job or has a view?

Kind regards Paul.

That's a coincidence, I was talking to Charles Marsland (911 Carrera 3.2 Technical Advisor) just a few days ago regarding this seal. He explained the pipes had to be disconnected to progress the replacement.

Hi Paul,

Just to give you a little bit of encouragement, --- I replaced my seal early last year without removing the oil pipes.
It was quite a struggle - but not as much as taking the oil pipes off!! Lots of patience required as well but it is doable yourself.
(And its still in place!)
Only real complaint was the price of the replacement seal!!!

Good luck and let us know of your progress.
