auxillary belt adjustment

I can comment on this, as my 951 initially had A/C with a tightener which I then subseqently removed the compressor.
The difference between the two setup is simple:
Shorter belt on cars without A/C
Different mounting bracket that bolts onto the block.
The same tensioner rod (larger version of the PAS pump) is used to tension the belt.
So, in answer to your question even without A/C you will still be able to tension the belt correctly using the rod system.

I had the AC compressor removed a couple of years ago as it was making a horrible noise and a shorter belt was fitted.
I've now been told the adjuster went with the compressor - is that possible?
I know what you mean regarding the type of adjustor but could it have been removed?
I have no charging problems I simply asked for the belt to be tightened a little.

without seeing your set-up it's difficult to comment, I suspect that they may have removed the AC compressor and fitted a shorter non-porsche belt. To revert to a non- AC setup with a 944 you usually need a different location bracket (and hood at the back of the alternator) as the alternator sits in a different position ?
