Axle stand placement

All this talk of jacking points and axle stands made me wonder where the best places are on the car to place axle stands? I need to change my front arms so could do with jacking up the front end and doing both sides but where should I place the 2 axle stands?

I'm interested in the best place to put them in the rear as soon I'm going to be spending a fair bit of time poking around the gearbox, fuel lines and suspension.

When working on the front, jack the car up at the centre of the passenger sill and place an axle stand under the donut at the back of the passenger front wheel arch. Then jack up the centre of the drivers sill and place an axle stand under the donut at the back of the drivers front wheel arch.

Don't ever support the car using only the donut on the drivers side - it will bend the floor pan by the pedals!

When working on the rear, jack up the car at the centre of either sill and place an axle stand under the square about 6 inches in front of the rear wheel arch. You can also use the end of the torsion bar, but the square is the 'approved' place according to the owners manual

On the rear I put them where the trailing arm joins the body, seemed pretty stable to me.

On the front I put them on the 2 "beams" that run down the length of the underside from just behind the caster mount. There's a picture of the best placement on clarkes somewhere...
