Axle Stands at front...

Could anyone help please; I have the front of my 993 up on trolley jacks (one each side on front jacking points) and one of the jacks has decided to sink down. Fortunately, I stuffed a brick under each jack in case this happened, so the car can't fall any further. (I can't put the wheels back on).

My question is, is it OK to put an axle stand under the front wishbones (the jack will pump back up for a short time), the best point I can see is the front where the "swivel" bit is (technical term). Anywhere else suitable for the axle stands?
 
I place axle stands (on 964) under the INNER mounting section of wishbones -no problemo!
 
imho safest place is where Melv suggests or at extremes of front crossmember, as these parts are what the rest hang off of and as such should be very sturdy.
 
Or jack under the wishbone inners and put axle stands under the front jacking points.
 
At the last count 73 of us were wondering whether the axle stands had disappeared completely into the ground before any of the proferred advice had been put into practice. Put us out of our misery. Is there a pristine 993 nestling on its belly with an owner frantically excavating beneath the jacking/wishbone points? Happy Christmas...
 
No, it didn't end up resting on its front brake disks! (I have never really trusted any type of jack, so with my trolley jacks, I always slide a brick into the jack between its front axle and the lifting arm, just in case of collapse and this time it paid off!

First off, I'm not sure what they are. Do you mean something built-in? If so, apart from the trolly jack points, I don't think so.

Oh for a jack point in the middle on each side ...

To get mine on axle stands in front I usually jack up each side from the forward rear jack point. Easy to get high enough that way ... just take a bit of extra care on part 2 ... while you're jacking diagonally opposite the axle stand you've just got in place.

Yes, a jack point in the middle (at the front) would be great. (For the back, I know some people use the engine case).

Maurice, your "part two" of the jacking procedure sounds a bit precarious because, as I think you imply, there's a chance of the axle stand on the other side tipping over.

Yes but they are also used as the jacking points rather than being additional locations you can use.
