axles...

I am currently in the process of a major mechanical rebuild of my engine/gearbox. Now the Gbox is done and the engine at Andy Prill' s. The last bits I need are some complete axles (inc CV' s). Anyone know a good (and cheap) supplier of said items?
Maybe someone does exchanges although I doubt it.

Cheers
Gavin

Hey Gavin

I' ve just replaced my shot Nadella' s with Löbro shafts. It took me sometime to locate a set in good condition / price! - Plus I needed stub axles to complete the update.

On shopping around... I could find a set / someone selling me a set for less than £250 + vat!!!!

So I went to the States:
Excellent set of Lobro half shafts for $80
stub axles $40
Shipping $80

Total $200 which is £125 all in!

Okay - I had to wait 6 weeks for them to turn up.

I' m not trying to promote US / UK relations - I' m just trying to get a good deal.

I remember Alan Drayson might have a spare set. I' ll email him.

How are you getting on with shipping rates I have found lately that they say it' s going to be $10 to send say the rebuild kits for the carbs and it arrives and it' s $4 I don' t mind rounding up a liitle but hey.

How are you others getting on with the rates.

I also wanted a fuel sender unit I found one for $20 they wanted $25 shipping NO way is it going to cost that even rounded up it' s not going to cost more than $10

Its the shipping that is putting me off the states as they are heavy!
I ordered some stuff from Stoddards the other week supposed to be via FedEx and Parcel Force delivered it AND charged me for doing it, although I had already paid shipping. I am in the process of sorting it out.

But I guess its still going to be cheaper than buying them here....

It all tends to work itself out! Sometimes I get a good / fair shipping rate. But you do seem to get a few who know your onto a good thing and double the price... especially on EvilBay.

A good way to check is to go onto http://www.usps.com/ or http://www.ups.com/

But the last thing you want to do is to piss the seller off by telling him he' s over charging you by 200%!!

The main cost increase is time i.e. By air (4 days) or boat (6/8 weeks)!

Also you have to remember that you could pay import fees. if the item is marked as ' Merchandise' / manufactured out of the EU. Can be around 20% of the total cost - had a few shocks when the package arrives and the postie wants £20. I' m not totally sure on the all the legalities.

As for private sellers: you could tell them its your birthday and you need a ' Gift' - unlawful (does anyone work for the Government)? But like the Queen... I have many birthdays!

Yep I have been getting stuff over for the past 4 years now and it has just gone up and up . The postage rates have gone up ok but the sellers are now just loading it up.

In the past I have had some great deals . That is why I keep going back. But the other day with this sender unit for the 912 it was $25 surface you all know what the sender looks like and there is no way that is $25 more like $8-10 . I know it' s just one thing but hey add them all up then look. I would not mind but this guy had a load of 356 stuff I wanted too so he' s cooked his goose....

But yep lots of Birthdays ......And I have a dedicated list of birthday gift suppliers who know what' s good for them $$$$$$$$

but it' s just a few who spoil the party......

but your right about Ebay boy some of the prices are like gold dust I have a mate in the US I get it sent there and then send over the whole lot at a later date.
