I'll ask Mum Melv. G61 so about 45 mins away. Large driveway for trailer. Loves dogs!

I have stayed at Travel Lodge at Troon but not ideal for the trailer or dogs!

LOCAL KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED!

Which is best route to Ayr from M74 (northbound??) Bare in mind in 4x4 plus car trailer....

Via Dumfries A76?

Douglas A70...

or via A71??

I would go with the A70 it is the most direct route off the M74 junction 12 and takes you into Ayr on the A77
The A76 is a long haul from the M74 just to get onto it ,and the A71 means driving further north and you end up at Kilmarnock and have to travel south again down to Ayr
All roads are suitable for a trailer ..Remember your visa and passport [:D] have a safe trip

agree with brian A70 - cracking road for a drive if you can avoid the police (fairly active here) and weren't towing!

Just spotted this and you're fixed up, but if you need similar accn another time in the Glasgow area, I'm PA6 rather than KA6 so west of Glasgow (4 miles from the airport). I can offer a large yard, outbuildings to hide a trailer and plenty of space for dogs (own dogs on site). You could even see my brother's yellow TechArt RS which I'm currently storing! No charge to Club members. [:)]

Yes, Brian, but only if you're prepared to house-sit/dog-sit while I go on holiday! [:D][:D][:D]

Sounds like a deal!!

Greetings from Ayr......A70, I'm sure, is a lovely road, but a steady 40-50 about all I could achieve, (except for the villages!!) in the dark, and the rain...however, pleasant dog walk by the beach!!

Incidentally, was driving thru sleet on the 74, and snow settled on the hills and fields.....
