Has anyone had a baby seat in their 944?

Im gonna be a dad in april and dont want to have to sell the motor cause i cant put the kid in it.

SO any help would be appreciated

Thanks
Jamie

Congrats on the baby. As Fen suggests, there is plenty of info on here about this subject. You won't find a rear facing baby seat for the rear, and putting one in the front will perhaps require the belts lengthening, so until he/she is about 9kgs (approx 10 months) it may be tricky. Anyway, it is lack of money that will require you to sell it....[8|][;)][:D]

We have a 7month old boy who has been going in the 944 since 4months old. The length of the belt is a little short but definately achievable. Hope all goes well!!

I've just come back from a trip with my 7 month old in his rear facing seat in the front of my 944. It fits quite nicely. We'll have to wait until he gets a forward facing one for the back before the whole family can go out in the Porker, but that isn't far away now.

Can you say what model of rear facing seat you have, what you had to do to fit it (if anything), and how much it cost?

Thanks,

Tom

Certainly. It's a Jane Rebel car seat. I'm not sure what the cost of just the car seat is, as we bought it along with the push chair and carry cot attachments. I think it's around 80 quid though. A quick Google should give you a good idea of prices

As for fitting it, it just attaches to the seatbelt in the normal way. No attachment brackets or anything else neded. In order to get the seatbelt to go round it, I have to push the passenger seat right back, but that's all.

Another good thing about it is that it's a nice red colour that matches the car [:D]

I have no children[:)], this may sound a little hartless[;)], but you know the level of the sense of humour on the forum.[8D] "thats why the 944 has a boot, if your really conserned maybe remove the space saver it looks like an mobile cresh to me[:D]"

I found one of the members had a what fits what article. If you do a search on this forum for baby seat you are bound to find the last thread about 2 weeks ago.
I'll see if I can find anything again
its on page 3 of the 944 board in case this linky doesn't work

On titanic some time ago the britax ranger was reccomended - I bought one and it does fit however the base is flat and the rear seat is curved so it only touches front and rear. Figured I can make a shaped piece out of polystyrene to give the seat a flat base and improve it. Yasmine isnt quite big enough to use it yet though.
It is thinly padded and hard compared to some of the newer (and larger) modern seats. The lower part can be used as a booster without the back part.
Tony

yes that sounds like a good solution buy the best seat and modify it to fit with some polystyrene. Afterall thats what they are made of in part in the first place presumably. Can't believe Porsche don't make anything suitable . Big business opportunity here for someone I should have though. Roof racks also for skis, kayaks etc

forgot to add ranger is for children over 9kg and needs a diagonal belt not just a lap strap,

Thanks for the help, off at the weekend to find a seat. Does anyone have any experience of the Porsche prince? Currently bidding for one on ebay, seems to have rave reviews from some people and awful ones from other people!!

When I was looking for a baby seat for my car last year I struggled to find any modern baby seat that had actually been crash tested in a 944. I even looked at the latest Porsche seats but they were a ridiculous price. I then spent a good couple of hours or so at my local Mothercare and Halfords test fitting various seats and none of them fit satisfactorily. The bases on modern seats are too large to fit in the rear or front bucket seats.

I then looked on the Brittax website and they had a car selector which still had the 944 and 968 listed (it doesn't anymore) and the seat it had listed was no longer in their current range and was discontinued. However I did find a guy on ebay selling brand new end of line stock so I bought one. However even though the seat was listed as being suitable for both rear and front seats I cannot install in the rear satisfactorily. Modern child seats seem to rely on the compresstion of the seat to tension the seatbelt and firmly fix the seat in position without any movement. You cannot do this with the rear seats as they have no or little padding so there is slack. I wasn't happy with this as there is precious little room back there and in a crash the baby would probably hit the rear of the front seats before the seatbelt arrested the forward motion due to the slack in the seat belt. I now just use the seat in the front passenger seat and it is fine. In fact my daughter loves going in the Porsche.

I can't remember the model name of the seat i've got. I'll take a look and let you know for reference.

I went through the same process & was unable to find anything for newborn so my son didn't go in my car until he was old enough to sit in a forward facing seat. I did find a Brittax rear facing seat that fitted in the front (I have sport seats) but the seatbelt wasn't long enough.

I have a Mothercare one in the front now (I have no airbags), he's been using that since he was about 9mths. For forward facing seats in the front as long as it isn't an isofix one I found the base & back were narrow enough to fit between the bolsters so there's plenty of choice. No chance of getting anything I tried in the back, not even close.

Recaro used to offer a seat to fiyt in the rear of a 944/968. I looked at them when my daughter was little, but they werent brilliant and they cost more than a 944 is worth now...
