anyone know if a baby seat will fit a 944, for a new born, and if so, what type?

I've done a search on here, but cannot find anything

cheers

When I was looking for a baby seat for my car last year I struggled to find any modern baby seat that had actually been crash tested in a 944. I even looked at the latest Porsche seats but they were a ridiculous price. I then spent a good couple of hours or so at my local Mothercare and Halfords test fitting various seats and none of them fit satisfactorily. The bases on modern seats are too large to fit in the rear or front bucket seats. I then looked on the Brittax website and they had a car selector which still had the 944 and 968 listed (it doesn't anymore) and the seat it had listed was no longer in their current range and was discontinued. However I did find a guy on ebay selling brand new end of line stock so I bought one. However even though the seat was listed as being suitable for both rear and front seats I cannot install in the rear satisfactorily. Modern child seats seem to rely on the compresstion of the seat to tension the seatbelt and firmly fix the seat in position without any movement. You cannot do this with the rear seats as they have no or little padding so there is slack. I wasn't happy with this as there is precious little room back there and in a crash the baby would probably hit the rear of the front seats before the seatbelt arrested the forward motion due to the slack in the seat belt. I now just use the seat in the front passenger seat and it is fine. In fact my daughter loves going in the Porsche. I can't remember the model name of the seat i've got. I'll take a look and let you know for reference.

I went through the same process & was unable to find anything for newborn so my son didn't go in my car until he was old enough to sit in a forward facing seat. I did find a Brittax rear facing seat that fitted in the front (I have sport seats) but the seatbelt wasn't long enough. I have a Mothercare one in the front now (I have no airbags), he's been using that since he was about 9mths. For forward facing seats in the front as long as it isn't an isofix one I found the base & back were narrow enough to fit between the bolsters so there's plenty of choice. No chance of getting anything I tried in the back, not even close.

Recaro used to offer a seat to fiyt in the rear of a 944/968. I looked at them when my daughter was little, but they werent brilliant and they cost more than a 944 is worth now...
